It's a fair price for a cheap lager.

If you knew your beers, you really wouldn't embarrass yourself by defending wife beater, it's the refrain of the uneducated I'm afraid.

Don't get me wrong, I still drink it - I'm just very aware of its numerous limitations...

Wife beater LOL what a myth
just people who cant handle their consumption of alcohol. Need a reason as to why they slap women around!

If you can't handle the Stella a quality lager you should stay well away.
Go on the Fosters/Carling and get bloated to the max!

I'm not convinced, certain chemicals in things create different reactions in people.

But yeah, 5.2% is a fair bit more than the 4% soup usually served in pubs, so yeah I can understand that those who switched in the early days found it a bit difficult to handle.......

Don't drink to get drunk, maybe children like you do though?

Is it not past your bedtime?

I used to drink Stella when i was 17-18 years old. Then i grew up and started to appreciate beers. I've not touch Stelle in years. I put it in the same bracket as watery nonsense like Budweiser.

But it looks like a good deal if you don't want to buy the alternatives of White Lightning and Buckfast. So, hot deal i guess.

love is all around this forum my friend. :friends:

Don't forget the difference between the English version and the Belgian original!

This lager tastes so chemically to me. Just dont understand why they try to pass it off as premium lager. Each to their own I suppose......

As a 17-18 year old...I don't mind Stella but you are right, in comparison its really not what you would call nice. Can I out myself out on a limb and say try it with some sliced lime in...tastes better.

Good deal though

Stella a quality drink LOL!!!

'quality and lager' = oxymoron.

The only quality connected with Stella is the the quality of the marketing campaigns that have people convinced it's any different.

Contents of a can of Stella cost less to produce than the metal can it comes in. That's why the brewers want to push this stuff rather than real drinks. That's why they spend their money in the ad campaigns, and the great british public sucker for it big time.

These were on the 3 for £20 deal at Sainsbury's, so i would assume they are trying to clear stock if its anything like my store (they have a huge pallet of it!)

uneducated? right so i guess 3 years in the pub trade stands for nothing then

and i'm not 'defending' it, i see people get in all sorts of states with it - but in my opinion it tastes very nice...

There are NO chemicals in Stella Artois, just 4 NATURAL ingredients.

You are dead right, 5.2 is a high ABV and uneducated people don't realise the difference between this and standard (4%) lagers. Stella Artois is actually 5.1%, but the rules in Off Trade dictate you need to round up where as in the On Trade you round down. Either way, the ABV is being lowered to 5% in both channels.

You are dead right, don't defend people who hit women (or anyone) by blaming it on something they've drunk and they're not 'usually' like that.

Each to their own taste, but Stella Artois has being brewing to the same recipe since 1366. It is celebrated across the world as a fantastic beer. It has just really suffered from a bad reputation in the country because of our drinking culture. If you want a beer education go to Belgium, no one does beers better (the Germans a close second). By the way, the Belgiums are very proud of Stella Artois and so they should be. I wonder if you did a blind taste test and told people who don't like Stella Artois that this 'new' lager comes from a micro brewery how many people would suddenly like it.

I don't know if this is a joke, I hope it is. There is NO difference, again try a blind taste test and you will see.

A premium lager is defined by the strength. However Stella Artois is the best selling premium lager in this country. It is one of the best loved brands in the country (GQ magazine readers voted it 3rd if my memory serves me right). GQ magazine is aimed at ABC1 males, so to say Stella Artois is a cheap lager is clearly not true. Because supermarkets sell it cheap is ruining the image, there are reasons they do this. They can sell any brand at any price they want, no one can control this.

androoski;2854501

You obviously don't like lager, so why just single out Stella Artois? Brewers want to push beer because thats what they brew, create and sell. They are not wine makers. And on that note how much do you think it costs to make a bottle of wine/whisky, or a Nike/Adidas trainer?

Of course they spend their money on ad campaigns, just like any big company. To keep they're image and create a buzz around the brand.

Right, now having said all that I don't actually drink Stella Artois. I just prefer the taste of other drinks (as previously stated, each to their own). I just think people are uneducated and some of the quotes above are nonsense. I'm not trying to preach at people so please don't take this the wrong way.

So you can buy 36 x 284 ml bottles for £15 at Lidl = £1.47 per litre / 83p per pint.

The Sainsbury's deal posted here works out at £1.40 per litre / 80p per pint.

Five years working for a big brewer. I didn't single out Stella, but Stella is generic lager like any other but with a stronger marketing backing. Brewers want us to but products which are are cheaper to make, store and distribute and that is why they spend so much cash trying to convince us we want it. Many fall for it. I've many times heard brewer marketing people laughing about how people are sucked in when a big campaign has lifted sales. There are quality beer and lager products out there, but there is less profit in them for large brewers, so they would rather we drink the drain water. Why do you think they are able to keep offering them at such apparent discounts? They are still collecting a huge margin.

One of the reasons that marketing is pushing chilled and very chilled drinks is because they have reduced costs of the brewing process and chilling masks the even lower standard of taste that results.

A brewer can produce a batch of Stella one week, then adjust the process slightly on the same equipment and bottle the output as something else. There is nothing special about Stella.

I enjoy an odd pint now and then. I enjoy a wide variety of lagers. Especially Tiger!! YuMMMyyy

But honestly its alcohol at the end of the day and classing one as a wife beater is ridiculous, just to say you drink 10 bottles of becks doesnt mean your going to go home and not beat your wife...

its a deal yeah - but to class it as a wife beater drink it just stupid imho!

Due to a mess up by Tesco delivery last week, I managed to get 4 x 20 cases of Stella 284ml bottles and a case of 20 Budweiser for £24.50 delivered...not only that, but I also got 1000 Clubcard points!!!!! Happy days.

OK for the under age drinkers and scallies. I will give it a miss thanks...

So Joe public would not know the difference between Fosters and Stella, no I don't think so either.
What I can not understand is why people always want to knock it and use the expresion "wife beater"
