Got this at base.com for the same price a while back might still have it.

Base still have it in stock, but the price there is now £17.99. Still have my reservations on this game though. Can anyone recommend it?

The fighting mechanics are very solid. I don't really do online gaming so I've mainly been working through the single-player modes and enjoying it. It's a fun game that to me feels closer to SFII (still the gold standard) than SFIV did.

It's an irritation that you have to earn points to unlock a lot of the characters and stages, though. It will require quite a bit of playing if you want to get the entire roster and extras (costumes, etc.).

do you need ps+ to unlock them? like fifa 17. annoyed me so much that i sold my fifa.

Games like these are pretty one dimensional in the modern world of gaming, so I feel they heavily rely on having great characters to keep them alive, and that is exactly what I was looking forward to with Street Fighter... However, this is where Capcom mess up again, when games like Mortal Combat and Tekken keep all their big name characters in aswell as new ones to discover, Street Fighter does not!I was a massive fan of Blanka and Sagat, neither are in the game, nor is E.Honda. Other classic characters such as Guille and Balrog are there but good luck using them, I was absolutely disgusted to see that you have to pay REAL MONEY to use them, it's £4.99 just to use Balrog alone! Or you can opt to pay £25 for a character pass to get any new characters they decide to add, but they rarely add more anyway..You can earn these characters by winning points in matches online, however, its near impossible to accumulate enough points to buy anyone. You average 50pts per WIN (yes you have to win to get anything), it costs 100,000pts to buy a character, so, to unluck just one character it will take you 2000 wins! Lets say you win and loose at a 50/50 rate, thats 4000 matches, 8000 rounds minimum (even more if a match goes 1-1 and to a tie break), just to unlock 1 character...Characters aside, the game play is the usual stuff you expect from Street Fighter, nothing new to see here, it all seems lazy and just a quick way to cash in on a big name franchise..I would not advise anyone buy this game just because of the disgraceful charges just to use a character, you buy the game and just expect the characters to be playable or you have to unlock them the fun way (by playing through arcade mode, which by the way the game doesnt even have even though arcade mode is what made the game a big success in the first place)AVOID!!!

amazon review. think I'll pass until it's stupid policy changes or it gets down to £5 clearance bin price.

you get 16 characters and can then pay to get the rest or 100,000 points to buy each one. Apparently compleating the story on easy gets you 10,000 points so thats 10 times to unlock one. That does seem like a pain but not as bad as that review makes out

Cheers.

I've barely played it and had enough to buy Akuma, and I'm not far off being able to afford another new character. As pointed out above, the maths on display here is absurdly negative/ignorant, as there are other, easier ways to earn currency.

Let's not forget that Street Fighter 2 had 8 characters originally, 12 including bosses, and Super Street Fighter 2 had 16. Here, you get 16 out of the box. With a little patience, it's not hard to unlock more. The 2016 season pass is currently £7.99, so that's 22 characters total. Or, y'know, just stop moaning and play the game

This ever coming out on Xbone?

I'll admit that £24.99 for the 2017 character pass is insane, but it's intended for a small group of people who are crazy enough to buy it. For the average gamer, the availability of new characters (usually drip-fed) is simply incentive to invest a bit of time playing the game.

Capcom wants to keep the game alive until 2020, and while some of the decisions to date have been questionable, it's definitely improving.

Oh, and there are now Missions you can complete for currency, like perform a move X times, or win on a certain stage.

I'm by no means an SFV "fanboy", and the game isn't without fault; just trying to provide some balance to that Amazon review X)

Nope. SFV is the result of a "strategic partnership" between Capcom and Sony, though it's available on PC. Apparently Sony bought into Capcom's idea of making the game an evolving platform.

SF4 is better than 5. I stopped playing 5 in the summer. I still play USF4 even after 2 years.

Yeah, USF4 often drops to £7.99, or the same price for six SF5 characters, hmm...
