I think it works for primary and secondary school kids as well, so parents could buy it for themselves.

Any idea when the Surface Book is coming to the UK?
Which of the older surface pros are worth getting at the moment?

SP3 is a huge upgrade on SP1/2 and made even better if you get the SP4 Type Cover and Pen. I have and still love my SP1 (with type cover 2) but am tempted to grab a SP3 with the new peripherals.
Any clue when the surface book goes live?
how do u get the price can i just buy even though not a student ?

The Pro 3. The differences are minute, when compared to the Surface Pro 4. The Pro 4 has a roughly 33% faster processor, which is also more energy efficient. As I already own the Pro 3, I will definitely be waiting for the Pro 5 next year. The additional cash required to top up any cash recouped from selling last years device, make this a major cash to performance upgrade loss. Only the most hardent techies could convince themselves to make this upgrade. However for first time entrents to the Surface line, always enter with the latest product line (and future proof at least a little, i5, 8GB RAM, etc.), if funds are available to do so. A purchase in this price range, should deliver high enough performance (for atleast 2 years).

November. Although it has already been listed, and sold out on atleast two occasions so far. I didn't check UK availability, on either occasion.

Didn't think there was a SP4 keyboard? pretty sure it's identical. The pen has changed quite a bit though.

New type cover is one of the best parts:

Works 100% with SP3 as well, so a good upgrade for existing customers.
Think I'll hold off this year. I have the SP3 and the 4 doesn't seem a big enough upgrade to justify me switching just yet! If you're only just jumping on though it looks to be an awesome device. My biggest issue with the 3 is the fan kicking in very easily, and the throttling - it seems like this is improved significantly in the 4.

I know people say to just get the new type cover if you have a 3, but to be honest I have no issue with the current one. I can't really justify the expensive price there for a marginal typing improvement.

Cool thanks I must have missed the launch. Gonna order one for my SP3 worth it for the fingerprint reader alone. It's not worth upgrading my i7 SP3 for and SP4 but the keyboard might be a decent compromise.

Primary kids........talk to me. My Son started Primary school in Sept and was wondering if educational discounts could be sorted - even though i suspect the IT room is a few years off yet!!!
Might have to eek another year out of my SP1, nice to see them carrying on with the student discount though. Odd none on the top-end model though?

That's fine my SP3 came from the USA as it was cheaper, I'm often there so will collect one and maybe a surface book next time.

Unless you really need the Pro the Surface 3 non Pro 128Gb SSD with 4Gb RAM is a brilliant device and being lighter and slightly smaller far easier to use as a tablet for long periods. The new class of Atom CPU's are a massive step up from old Atom's. I use one daily and laugh at the people in the office who try and use an iPad for work

If you get chance head into a Microsoft store, they have loads of accessories you can't get in the UK. I picked up a really nice case for my Surface 3 which includes a 6Ah battery which can charge the Surface or any USB device. It cost $60 which I thought was great, you can pay that for a standard case with no battery

Same for me...
QUESTION:: How do you get the discount if the pupil doesn't have an email? And can't write, or count, or do the alphabet... Is that an issue? They are a 'student' and, in my case, can use the ipad without any problems, so should be eligible for this... But how?

Yes, especially with responsiveness. The older Atom based tablets I tried all suffered lag even when just navigating web pages, there is just no lag on the Surface 3 when doing normal work but its fast enough to be used for updating Office files including decent size spreadsheets which do slow it down a bit but its still surprising good given its a tablet and not a fill blown desktop or laptop
or wait few more days to get your hands on the new iPad pro

Define "student". Someone studying for a master's degree or even a Ph.D is a student. Plus, most students have parents...

You've presumably never seen the number of people carrying MacBooks in the creative faculties in that case.

Students don't get a job and they're lazy.
They get one to buy luxury items and they have "too much money".

The way the older generation talks about our kids today is a disgrace.
We've taken so much from them. We screwed up the economy so they struggle to get a job.
We knackered up their ability to get mortgages to the point where almost all young people have no realistic chance of getting one.
We sit in our houses which went through a huge property price boom and tell them “at your age, I had my own place” when in reality, we got lucky with our property price increases.
We privatised so much of the essential public services that it’s become a race to the bottom for wages within them. Nurses, teachers and the emergency services have been blasted in the papers for years. We’ve decimated their pensions (even though they paid for themselves), made them work longer hours, made them study more and rack up huge university fees, and then accuse them of having “too much money” if they want a device they could do their university work on.

We berate their life choices. We have allowed the government to steal their privacy though endless anti-terror laws. We sold anything ‘British’ to the Chinese or Germans, for short term gains for ourselves.
We are one of the richest nations in the west, yet our older generation still likes to tell the younger one what they should and shouldn't have, which is ironic given they never had the struggles that we have imposed on our children. They are our own flesh and blood, yet we can't wait to put them down at every opportunity.

So please, before you start proclaiming utterly ridiculous things like they have “too much money” – just remember what we have taken from them, and ultimately what we have left them with.
They owe us nothing. In fact, thanks to our generation, they owe it to the Chinese.
