Never knew such a thing even existed...
How can I justify one of these to the wife... hmm... Also where are the add-in TB3 cards so I can use it with my PSU-constrained work desktop?
This is tempting,
Go from workday workhorse to gaming legend without switching machines. Easily fitting the industry's latest graphics cards and storage solutions, the OMEN Accelerator transforms the sleek, stunning laptop you love into a gaming monster capable of tackling the most demanding AAA titles. Any idea if it would work with a MacBook? I am assuming not as it requires software and HP wouldn’t produce software for the Mac. Any idea why it needs a hdd?

Just incase you want to add more storage. Will work with just a gpu
£300 for non students?! I wish I still had a .ac.uk address
I don't really understand what this is. Is it just a way of attaching a graphic card plus ssd without physically putting them in your computer? What's the advantage over just.. erm... putting them inside your computer?

Generally you can't open laptops and put graphics cards in them

So you get a portable ultrabook during the day... come home and plug this in... game away!

Effectively allows you to high end game (gpu dependent) on an ultrabook which has no built in gpu. So portable laptop when you need and plug into this like a desktop when gaming. Need to choose the right gpu based on the processor you have otherwise run into a bottleneck

It should work with any laptop that has USB-C with thunderbolt 3

It's trickier than that, I was wondering maybe someone has one and tested it because there are reports that it doesn't work even with some hp models. Dell Alienware for example is completely locked out and doesn't work with anything other than Dell.

I think they relaxed that requirement, not sure.
Can't seem to get it for this price? I have made an account with a student email address but it comes up as £299

Its designed for laptops genius. You turn a work laptop with a powerful cpu but no dedicated gpu into quite a powerful gaming laptop. Obviously you cant put desktop GPUs into a laptop.
Although these things are generally very buggy.

Was in curry's earlier, they had one in there, this thing is huge! My desktop is smaller than this thing (gaming rig not mini itx btw) and not such an awkward shape.
There's a review here:

Gotta love how the discount is for students who are supposed to be studying and not playing games. Haha. Hot deal tho!

scan.co.uk/pro…ard

little pricey but not bad.

Honestly with the cost of a dock making a new build entirely wouldn't be that much.

something not ancient but still very capable... i7-3930k's (6core 12thread) are regularly under 100 on ebay, x79 boards can be difficult to find but not very. still DDR3 so you wont have to spent a grand on 16gb of ram (and probably have some ddr3 lying around already) and have a card running at full 16x without a bottleneck.

if you're interested in looking into an overhaul, message me what you have and i can show you an idea of how much you could improve it on the cheap than just using this for a temporary boost (if your cpu/ram/hdd don't bottleneck it even more than the 4x limitation)

Hmm, as far as I can tell all these add-in cards need a TB header on your motherboard as well as PCI-E 4x. If so they're not compatible with generic motherboards, but I haven't seen anyone try them without the header. Of course my old system doesn't have it but it's also too good to throw out, dual sandybridge xeons!

should work in any board with a TB3 header, most mid-high x99 and z170 boards from the larger brands do (asus, gb, asrock)
TOP MAN!!!!
