9 month contract. Advertised for Students but you can just apply.

Good deal in my opinion if you don't want to rely on cashback or vouchers.

what's the download soeed

When I was in student accommodation there was no way ADSL would suffice. 6 of us downloading and streaming simultaneously!

Sky are trying to compete with virgin here who have been doing 9 month student deals for a while.

Not a bad deal I suppose

Depends on the distance to the cabinet in your area - it's ADSL, so slower than fibre.

isn't it free anyway with line rental ?

Plusnet as an example are doing free ADSL with 18 month contract at £17.99 a month line rental, unlimited. The only advantage here is for students it's not a year contract so you can use it for term time.

Probably some cash back of reward avaliable too, haven't looked in to it, just an example that this isn't that great of a deal.

True actually.

I'll leave this thread deal anyway purely as it is useful for students wanting a 9 month contract But otherwise - I agree.

When will Sky conform with the required marketing arrangements that must be in place by October?? Their "free" offers are really grating with me now!! It's not free if you have to pay £17.40 line rental!

FWIW from October such deals must clearly as the banner headline state the total price so no hiding away a line rental cost in the corner.

No, ADSL is to the exchange. Distance to the cabinet only matters for fibre.

if your exchange has fibre to the street cabinet , then i do believe distance is no problem for adsl as youll get fast speeds. i think

ADSL is copper to the exchange, even if the cabinet has fibre.

BTW have the potential to run ADSL over fibre from the exchange to the cabinet, but they currently don't.

This is a great example -

Sky Broadband is pants. Had it for about 3 years. The max download I could get was 11.6Mb but most of the time that would drop as low as 3 even when nobody is downloading anything!

We upgraded to Fibre Unlimited and it's much better.

Typo on my behalf there. Both are affected by distance to the *box* they are each connected to, that is the important information for most people Hence you cannot estimate other peoples speeds. But you can use websites which will guesstimate your best speed.
