Who would give an Android media player as a gift, more or less guaranteeing yourself a life of hassle?

2gb ram vs 1gb and s812 vs 805

any idea the difference between a m8 and m8s?

I have been looking into these boxes, do you think they will ever be updated to 5.1?

M8 and M8s is only s805 vs s812. Both have 2gb ram. Would get the m8s as virtually same price. I doubt they will get an android update to be honest but work perfect with kodi, much better than a fire tv stick too.

No idea why link not working, just search m8s android, loads of uk sellers

Any good?
I've got an M8S that i got from China. Ideally they'll sort out a version of openELEC for it, but in the meantime it's great.

1GB of ram is pretty much enough as it is, but 2GB is always handy!

I would recommend one of these microsd and open elec, I have a minix x6 recommended on most sites however I bought this as a present for xmas and better than mine
It's better than mine even, too many ales lol
Only 1gb and 8gb storage
Anyone interested in this is advised to purchased the small bluetooth keyboard which makes moving around your tv screen much more easier and quicker.
Defo about the keyboard

Great gift and anyone with half a brain will work their way around kodi in a few days or so (obviously except the brain dead negative individual who sent the first reply here)..

I wouldn't know. More interested in whether they can run native Openelec myself. Problem is some company puts the work in then it gets cloned to hell for 50% of the cost and people buy the clones.

I've had one of these for quite a while now and been great so far. The remote isnt too good but i just use a wireless mouse with it and it works fine.
i'm one of the few people that actually likes the remote

I don't really have any other use for the box other than kodi, and the remote does the job just fine.
I've got one of these and it's great, plays 1080p flawlessly.

Only issue is that mine came pre-installed with XBMC, I've since tried to update it to one of the newer releases of Kodi and the video playback is jumpy and unwatchable on most videos no matter what video playback/acceleration options you choose, so you're pretty much stuck with the version of xbmc/kodi it comes installed with. I'm still really impressed with it for the price, but it does restrict it's lifespan with no potential to be able to update the software. I looked around online and found other people who had experienced the same problem. Not sure if this is something Sumvision have since fixed since I bought mine a year ago if they're now shipping it with Kodi (not XBMC), I'd be interested to know if anyone on here has tried to update theirs and had any success.

Have you adjusted the video cache size?

I would not recommend you spend that sort of money for 4K simply for the fact that there are not much legitimate 4K content nevermind illegitimate ones! My brother have something similar as he thought the more you pay the better it is but that chipset 4K upscaling is rubbish. In fact, upscaling the sort of content you normally get from Kodi actually makes it worse with a lot of pixellations and lines and jumps in the pictures. You also need an good 4K TV with fibre cable to really take advantage of it.

For less than half the money, just buy this Sumvision Android Box. By the time 4K do become common place, that Droidplayer would have dropped to this price anyway with no doubt even better CPU and chipset.

I have this Sumvision Android X4 and it is a great little box. It definitely works fine with the latest Kodi updates. I was a bit of a novice with this XBMC malarkey but found the free Sumvision technical helpline quite useful. After support seems ok. Can't complian as when I had a problem with their remotes, Sumvision was pretty quick to send me a replacement at no cost (which is as it should be!)

All in all, this brand is worth getting over the no name Chinese brand that I had previously as there are nobody to contact and never any updates. This Android Box is much more stable (no crashes yet fingers crossed) and if you are not comfortable with installing Kodi manually, it seem to have the menu option to download addons automatically (although I never tried this option as I am told the automatic option filter out all the dodgy channels which is actually what I want!)

Mine came with XBMC. I updated to KODI , just from the play store, and seems to play ok. I dont seem to get the problem you ard having. Not sure why that should be.

It doesn't support H.265 so a bit pointless for a UHD device.
Look for S812. M8S.
Remember that, when you're looking for this type of thing on eBay (e.g. M8S Kodi), the term 'fully loaded' generally means it's pre-installed to software allowing you to stream illegal content e.g. the latest movies.
This is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on you perspective. . . .

Best bang for buck on these at the moment, and with S812 is the MXIII-G.

Got the 2GB / 8GB version from gearbest last week for £38

Can you get BT sport on an Android TV box?
I have an M8, just put the beast on it, proper kicks ass now
agree with deeky in that
@veedubyaGTi I've a m8s running sprinztv build, how good is the beast build compared to sprinztv?
I use kodi on a laptop then beam to TV, what's the advantage of an android box over this? I also have Tevo so get Netflix, You tube app. Thanks

well, you don't have to have your laptop constantly turned on for one thing

depends what you want it for overall really. You can get Netflix and Youtube apps on this because it's essentially an android tablet at heart.
Gearbest is a legitimate seller. Although speed can sometimes be a problem - if they dispatch from their EU warehouse, its usually quite fast but I have had one product from their China warehouse and it took a lot of emails (nobody seem to answer the phone!) to chase up -eventually arrived 6 weeks later with not an apology!
Talking of phone, I quite like Edeals service. Quick response to email and call me back as promised. The free Sumvision tech helpline is also useful whereas the Gearbest one have no tech help and you are pretty much on your own once you bought the product.
Just ordered a minix neo 8 plus for £90 with a2 air mouse.... Just awaiting delivery to verify its all correct and I'll chuck the details up. £25 cheaper than elsewhere
