Tempting but apparently the OSX functionality is very poor (also needs 10.5).
Unfortunately these cheap USB microscopes aren't yet a patch on a reasonable standard microscope (esp. if you have one with phase-contrast).

who would need this

I think I want one...

Some highly interesting videos on youtube and firebox for this.

I'm glad you asked Mr Pointless Troll Poster - They're great for science lessons in schools (intel gave one away to every primary school in the country a while back, unfortunately a fair few have met with accidents etc) they are good for displaying minibeasts up on a whiteboard and have some neat timestop pohotgraphy options for filming things like mold growing. I'm sure plenty of kids would love one at home too unfortunately the intel version isn't made anymore.

I would have loved to have one as a kid. As an adult, I'd still like one but can't bring myself to buy it - I'd have a lot of fun for a day or two and then it'd be another prized dust collector, like my robot kits.

I need to check if i'm shooting blanks

ive got one , they are all generic rebrands , so basically they are all the same, spot on for what i use it for (extremely small component soldering, and i mean very very very small) so for me its spot on for checking, however you find your self looking at the most strangest of stuff.

granted it aint no pro microscope, however for the price there spot on, and great for the kids too!!!

This one doesn't seem to have a stand though, so you need a very steady hand to see anything up close. The Veho branded one does have a stand...

This seems to be the only difference between the summit and the £60 firebox one.

Loooool

Also from the specification, it seems this plugs into a Mini USB only?

The cheapest one i could find with a stand is £45 delivered @ play.com. These seem like fun little toys!

(£40 delivered with a stand @ ebay ;x )

It says USB2 ..... where are you reading different ?

I'd like to wait for some members feedback on this before I buy one, so would someone kindly report back please? Some still photos would be superb spanks. =)

Same here. I bought the Intel one many moons ago and, quite frankly, it was rubbish.

This time I'd like to get a bit of info on it before buying.
