This is one of the new generation of hybrid system. So, rather than being just a traditional DVR, this is actually a NVR. You can even mix and match e.g. 4x normal CCTV cameras and 4x IP cameras. The interface is well done and the 720P HD is very sharp and detailed. It is a hybrid in the sense that it can take a combination of both analogue CCTV cameras and networking IP cameras.

£118.99 NO hard drive included (_;)
720p?? analog cable??
They also do double the HDD size for just under £10 more!
would you not pay £10 more for the 2tb??
Tvl is only one aspect. These cheap systems usually have shocking colour that can make it useless.

Cheap for a reason!
In my experience sumvision stuff does not last long at all, if you're lucky it'll break within the warranty period & you can get a replacement, only way i've ever had more than a years use out of a sumvision product.

We have 4 Sumvision products and they all work fine 2 of them are over 2 years old and the other 2 are about 18 months old, all of them are in daily use.

720p?? analog cable??

Yes its possible. These AHD cameras should work over the same type of coax cable as older cameras. There is a length limit though. Can also be run over network cable with baluns if you need longer runs.

This could be an okayish upgrade if your existing DVR has failed and you already have some analogue cameras installed.

Personally I would go for an IP based system.

It records to a DVR? Presumably the burglar just nicks that as a well and that's your evidence gone? Don't see the point of these unless they are linked somewhere else (cops/monitoring company) or the box/recording is stored off-site?

Or you could simply hide and/or lock it away somewhere obscure...

Most of these type of systems can be set up to send you email snapshots when motion is detected. Some (I doubt this one does) can also store video to a cloud based system too.

And whilst most people will consider them as a system for when you're out, not everyone uses them like that. Shops, offices and even home owners can monitor their property when they are open/in.

This one does mention Cloud service in description.

That seems to refer to 'live monitoring' rather than 'store video' like I said. I doubt most people just want to watch their property get robbed!

Gotcha... That makes sense and then I guess you`d either be paying a premium on top or even a subscription based service for Cloud Storage.
I had what looks to be the same DVR although branded as "QVIS Atlantis" had no end of problems with parts of the day where there was just no recordings despite the schedule.
Thankfully when I have needed to find certain events it hasn't been at the points where it hasn't recorded!
Does anyone have one of these is there anyway to backup to the cloud?
i don't expect to backup large data files to the cloud but I do expect to backup screen grabs to the cloud.
I might be tempted to get a nest cam to to be honest store.nest.com/uk/…ra/ 10 day video history for £80 a year. £159 for the unit but ive had a break in recently so probably worth it.

As much as some people will say that is expensive in comparison (also privacy issues as Nest/Google were accused of the camera left running even when on standby) but to get a decent outdoor camera can be quite expensive. An indoor camera can be much better and provide a much clearer image. Yes you may miss the attempted burglaries but the ones you really want to catch are when someone actually gets in your house.
Please could anyone recommend 8x Wireless camera system?? Thanks
For people recommending IP camera's don't just assume they are better!
I bought a Foscam FI8918W IP camera as it was recommended on here it cost about £60 about 5 years ago.
It is basically sh^*t, it has a night mode but the camera is not smart enough to realize when it is night time so you have to manually tweak the picture settings from night to day it also consistently restarts ! waste of money really.

On the other hand I have 3 D-Link DCS932L running in my house. Two as baby monitors and the other in my front window (rubbish through a window at night) and the image quality is fine. Never have any issues with day or night. The first two were around £50 but the 3rd I bought for about £20 from Ebuyer.

Yes mine is rubbish through a Window at night as the IR lights get reflected.
The D-Link DCS932L has some bad reviews on Google (3.9 out of 5 from 222 Reviews) sounds like you where the lucky few.

Things have moved on considerably in the IP cam world over the last five years. Not so much in the analogue CCTV realm though.

One thing to note with night vision is that nearly all consumer grade CCTV is pretty poor in the dark. It would be worth considering an IR floodlight for any important outdoor areas. Not very expensive.

It's not new generation.
The whole system is old tech including the cameras, cables and power supplies.

Why not just buy a poe nvr + poe cameras.

cost? Poe cameras are significantly more expensive.
Its £155 and people are complaining that it doesnt have features other systems 4 times the price do.
Im sure 4 x dummy cameras will cost £40. so for £110 you get a 1TB HDD (around £20), 4 Cameras and a DVR unit some cabling and security peace of mind.
if i were a thief and i saw a house with a Sumvision Camera system as opposed to one without i know which one would be on the hit list

That's what I'm aiming for - Peace of mind. However, there isn't any point in peace of mind if it's only peace of mind, and doesn't actually record anything that is useful. It's a difficult balance!

So only a Sumvision system would put you off robbing the place? How would you know?

Anyway, the reason why people are 'complaining' is because this type of system is pretty basic. If you're going to make a time and money investment in security, its probably a good idea to spend a little more on a better system.

Four good quality dummy cameras (no flashing red LED please!) will be just as much as a deterrant as these would in a residential environment.
do i need to buy both a securiy alarm and a CCTV system?

No 4 x dummy cameras would more than likely put a thief off, however for £150 you get 4 x actual HD cameras 24 x 7 recording and 1TB HDD, Peace of mind. for me.

Outdoor IP camera.....awesome.
I have been trying to decide what CCTV system to get, this one seems to have a lot going for it and although its more expensive than the sumvision its in the same ball park. Any comments would be much apreciated.
