looking for a new box to replace my raspbmc pi mk1 this looks like a good one.
Edited by: "credington" 27th Mar 2016
You cannot enjoy full potential of these boxes when they only have 1 gig of ram. I do not know why the manufacturers continue to do this & ruin their boxes for the sake of a pence pence worth of hardware.
I have a Tronsmart with 3368 its solid and runs very well. can get a little warm under heavy use

Random A Memory is not an issue with media players. 1gb is more than sufficient.

Any recommendations on a 2 gig box?
I would recommend only amlogic boxes that support openelec.
if you want 2g and octacore look for a beelink i68

I've got a Beelink i68, its awful. Bluetooth disconects, Audio stutters on Plex, the Rom Upgrade wouldn't work OTA. The Gigabit ethernet can be hit and miss (A lot of apps just don't like it), there's a lot of issues with the current rom with certain apps etc. It's good on paper, but pretty lame in real life. I've resigned mine to the kitchen and put my old fire box in place of it.

It will be an OK box but anything with a Rockchip SOC in it will only get decent support from devs that try to fix what Rockchip can never be bothered to.

Kodi support for Rockchip will always be an issue too, so unless your needs are basic, I'd look elsewhere.

Agree with your assessment and the i68 isn't even made by Beelink. Theirs is the R68. They seem to give away the rights to use their once respected name on any old tat these days.

Similar kinds of issues can be found on the Tronsmart R68 and although initially hyped as the RK3368 wonder box, even the Zidoo X6 Pro is taking an age to develop decent firmware for.

Having used and tested many a Rockchip based device over the years, the continual disappointment has meant that it's one brand that I'll be avoiding in the future.
I paid this for the X4 a year or so ago - good devices.

Might be time to upgrade as I tried to put Kodi on mine, played like a pig - fortunately the Kodi install didn't remove XBMC.

To best of my knowledge the Sumvision X8 does not have bluetooth and any RK3368-based box does not support 10bit x265, and certainly mine does not. 10bit is def supported by S905-based boxes.

If you're OK with Gearbest shipping items from China, best value by significant margin is the S905-based £26 Mini M8S gearbest.com/tv-…tml . If the slow boat doesn't impress, 2GB options ex-UK start in low-mid £40s delivered, examples: ebay.co.uk/itm…988 or check fulfilled Amazon amazon.co.uk/dp/…BW/ or amazon.co.uk/dp/…SC/ . UK stock is volatile at this pricepoint.

just got a tonbux android tv box....so new to all this stuff....was desperate for something to play media content as chrome cast and videostream were driving me bonkers with the constant buffering! I play stuff off a 64gb duo stick via one of the four sub's and works like a dream.....the kodi streaming part is a welcome bonus....but my box is a 1gb version.....I have noticed that wifi keeps dropping though....and may send it back for this reason.....one thing I would love to to know is if this these devices support screen mirroring from a phone or tablet?.....going to try the Kore remote app today....thanks god for YouTube and the sound advice of fellow HUKDERS
What what be the usp of this box over a 805-based MXQ box that can be got for £30 (I have one)?

Having 5.1 is good, does that mean it has the actual android tv code? Not sure if having 8 cores means much esp since it still only has 1GB memory.

Think it would only be worth spending over £40 if you were getting a more ram and storage space (say 16GB). For Kodi, an MXQ does the job

If you put Kodi on there, have a look at Live TV

Thanks for the links. Any alternatives to Mini M8s? (better spec but bigger?) I don't need it to be small, I'm slightly concerned on heat issues.

I've had three variants of S905 box (including two that use identical-looking case to Mini M8S) and not had any heat issues, although watching a few vids and browsing is hardly taxing. Some S905s use a metal case which I assume may be beneficial, although the heat dissipation to the case may be more important, or just the internal heatsink / general design. The T95 has "metallic material" case (2GB version £53 http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01ANJI4A0/) and one of the earlier K series S905s definitely had metal case but can't remember which one (but it had near-unique 12V supply rather than 5V so a tailored keyword Google search may help identify it). The MXV+ is stated to have an aluminium case but please check (1GB £35 ebay.co.uk/itm…143, can't immediately find a 2GB version).
Maybe look at S905 reviews at Cnx-Software as heat dissipation / temperature observations are often included, example: cnx-software.com/201…ew/

I've got a Beelink M18 which is solid and fast and would recommend it. I've just ordered a really cheap S905 with 2g ram and 8gb rom for £26 from Gearbest to see what it is like after AndyRoyd pointed it out, but seems some spec for the cash: gearbest.com/tv-…tml
