Doesn't look too bad.

From the ebuyer reveiws it supports USB 2.0 HDD's too

Just ordered one. Cheers.

Seems interesting, it's a shame the USB is at the front as it wouldn't look very tidy with a USB HDD plugged in all the time. I read the 3 reviews on Ebuyer, it sounds ok, nothing special. The EPG sounds terrible, but I guess for £22.99 it's good for AVI etc. I voted hot based on the media playback alone.

If This Helps.

Looking for reviews on this, the only info (Neg) that I found was that some people had probs with sound on divX. this apparantly is solved by converting the 5.1 sound to 2.1 sound.

does ths play mp4 or mpeg4?

Hot & even without the Freeview, a very useful gadget. Well done, OP!!

I'm looking for something similar to this but with freeview record feature. Anyone like to suggest one.

It must have divx capability too.

I've had this for about 2 years now. I don't use the freeview, I plug a 1tb external harddrive into it to play films etc.
It's great.

It doesn't play AC3 sound or .mkv files, or some encodes of .avi, though I can't remember which ones. Does play the majority though. Also, it organises the files/folders into Edited Most Recently, not alphabetical.

When I try play videos from a 2gb flash drive, only the first few minutes will play - I'm pretty sure you have to use a mains powered hdd with it.

Hmmm, scart connections - not exactly sterling picture quality

Voted hot for the bit of kit for that price but not for the £2 off lol

nice just ordered one got free shipping :P not paying £10 lol.

voted hot,good deal 4 me!

What formats does this support?

I see JPEG,XVID,DIVX4/5/6,AVI,MP3.

What about mkv, mp4, mpeg2? Can I pump any size video resolution into this or does it require certain sizes?

Also found ebuyer.com/pro…205 which is similar minus the freeview but does support hd.

If only I could get something like this that outputs to a pc monitor as well as a tv.

Indeed, stream recording is very simple to implement in software, so it is a shame that this one cannot do it. I would like to have a DVD drive, too, either built in or external via USB.

Unfortunately all multi-functional devices seem to suck in one way or another, unlike even cheap as chips Freeview boxes which are perfectly usable. Let me know if you find one that doesn't suck.

Seems this device does a few things, but doesn't excel in any. At this price fine. Not sure why you would buy it, maybe for a spare room non HD TV?

Quite useful for someone like me that isn't bothered about HD.

Seems an OK deal but the lack of component or HDMI puts me off.

nice find...having the freeview is a bonus aswell :P
For those that want one that plays mkv files and supports alot more stuff, then this is what you need

Whilst I respect your opinion, people can quite easily pay this price for an HDMI cable alone

Wow. what a great little gadget. Voted hot.

Just a shame it doesnt have HDMI support.

This product lacks some of the connectivity of the one in the OPs post but has HDMI and can record to external storage for a few quid more:

So, that's £30.40 for a different proposition. then? :whistling: (this is ebuyers 'deal of the day')

I was replying to imdave (and also comments earlier regarding recording) - if the extra features are required then that alternative is a decent price for £7 more; I do not consider the alternative a 'hot' deal otherwise I would have created a new post rather than a reply.

This is a good deal if you don't have a HD telly, but if you do, then you may as well just get a DVI/VGA/HDMI lead and connect your laptop to it. No worries about incompatible codecs, etc.

The price has now increased by £2 to £24.99 (this was on 'deal of the day') The free shipping seems to be intact still. ;-)

this is ideal for buying for the parents who still have old teles! i can then take my HD's round and they have something to play them on

3x the cost and without the freeview, shame they don't do this unit with freeview included, that really would rock

BTW I have 2 of these sumvision cyclones and they are really nice, HDMI, NTFS external HDD, mkv, xvid/divx, most wmv, network connectivity, completely silent as it doesn't contain a fan - allegedly also supports youtube and DTS but I don't use these so can't confirm

True, well sort of. Anyone paying any more than £10 for a 0.75m-3m HDMI cable are wasting their money.

Great idea! If laptops received freeview, of course!

Great deal unless you live in N. Ireland

Like 90-95% of the entire planet perhaps???

Actually I take that back, like 90-95% that will always watch, until the end of time, SD and nothing else, but still have a HD TV. Because you've got to be HD ready.....
