Haha I didn't manage to get one, was shocked wondering what he was going to do with 60 litres of oil! He laughed it off to the cashier saying that his family were going to drink it lol

Think about the millions of litres bought by shops and one bloke buying 60 bottles isnt really going to make any odds is it? He probably works in a chippie or something.

What is the point of buying a couple of bottles? He's putting the stuff in his diesel tank, of course he's going to buy loads.

Yep, it's just awful people are using cooking oil in their cars rather than burning a non-renewable resource that produces vastly more CO2 and sulphur than vegetable oil. oO

It's simple supply and demand. Vegetable oil has had a sudden surge in demand and it takes farmers a while to adjust their crops. Once everything evens out, we can be self-sufficient as rape seed is easily grown in the UK.

Not so - if we doubled the amount of land under rapeseed we'd still struggle to grow 5% of our diesel needs. And if we did, wheat prices would go up and make that a better proposition. Not going to happen.

And forget the CO2 nonsense - that's just politics now the 'science' has been exposed as activism anyhow. Nonetheless, good price as long as your engine is capable of handling straight veg. oil - modern ones don't cope very well. Citroen/Peugeot diesels prior to HDi on the other hand are OK, just bung it in at 20% of you tankload and you'll be fine, as I recall...
I drove through France, Spain and Portugal on my jollies and all I saw everywhere were sunflowers, I think they've had a good harvest this year, heck even I managed to grow 3 sunflowers this year and everything dies in my garden normally

Not true. Oil seed rape is a break crop - that is, you can't grow it two years in a row in the same field. It tends to be grown hand-in-hand with wheat. UK OSR couldn't power all UK cars but it could power far more if the EU didn't stick their noses in and prevent it being grown on set-aside land. This means most farmers "waste" many of their fields growing field beans as a break crop instead of OSR, which are valueless other than for EU subsidies, and are often left to rot in the field.
Every time Lidl or Aldi have their "weekend specials" we have a que of small shopkeepers filling trolley after trolley to take away and sell in their own shops. Neither Adi or Lidl care about this - all they want to do is sell all their stock quickly. If people refused to buy their stuff at marked up prices it would soon stop!
Just went into lidl and currently priced at 1.39p.
Where is this offer? Just been to my local LIDL where price is £1.39 a litre
Yep same for me went to evesham branch and its full price........where is this offer??

£1.39 a litre in My local Lidl today.
£1.39 a litre in my local Ashxxxx so where is the offer ?
That's strange. Got it from the Luton branch on Marsh Road, they had loads of boxes piled up at the front. . .
doesn't seem to be a weekend offer in luton so i guess a regular weekly deal? (not half price either as other clue)
dont remember it in my local but then see people buying a case or 2 at a time for businesses anyway so 4 boxes isn't unusual.

commodity trading is where you need to direct your anger, all the people in the UK combined that run their car off of vegetable oil have no effect on the market compared to commodity trading.
