It’s usually £25, so some might benefit the discount.

fair dues. I’d given you heat anyway. My bad I’ve edited comment. I googled to see how much it usually is because I’ve been meaning to pick both sets of dlc up

DLC isn’t an issue when it’s additional content. When they blatantly rip bits from the core game to sell it to you later, that’s a d**k move. Micro transitions are just cancerous greed.

So you preferred spending £50+ (worth nearly double if you account for inflation) on the original smash bros on n64 which came with 12 characters and much less to do instead of £50 in today's currency which came with 76 playable characters, tons of stages, a long single player campaign, online, and other stuff?

It's not like the dlc characters were cut from the base game to make more money, they simply never would have existed if dlc wasn't a thing.

Games cost more to develop than ever and expectations of how long a game should last has grown exponentially and yet they cost a lot less for the consumer than they used to. The idea that we're somehow being shafted any time a developer puts out dlc seems to be a bit disconnected from the concept of value for money we get now vs twenty years ago.
I wonder who will be part of Pass 2?

Dante perhaps? They did port old DMC games to the switch, so that’s possible.

Heat added

Except for years before DLC took off we had huge complete games for £40. Now we have content locked behind preorder bonuses. Upcoming DLC packs advertised before the game is even out. Content in the game locked out cause you didn't buy the super deluxe edition. Then season passes locking out even more content. Expansion pass, battle pass, pay to play online. Its all hit the fan.

I don't mind if a game comes out and feels like a complete experience, then later we get an expansion that actually adds a decent amount to the game. But that's rare, these days most DLC is cancer. And having to pay each company to be able to go online on their machines is just dumb. PS3 has it right with free online but PS+ for extras.

Your analogy would have worked alot better if you had referenced street fighter - when it was common practice to be charged the full game again in order to get additional characters. Those practices did not benefit us. Dlc has definitely proved more favourable.

These season passes have more in common with loot boxes than classic dlc expansions though. They're trying to sell you something you can't see. You don't know what you're buying into yet. It's basically, like loot boxes, gambling on getting value for money. That's not developers/publishes doing us a favour - the customers benefit isn't the priority. Money is.

Dlc that expands upon value and offers value for money is a great thing to add longevity to a product (dlc was designed to ensure less players trade in the game). Dlc that asks for your money without revealing its value needs to go. Regardless of if it's EA (who would be getting slated for this type of dlc) or precious Nintendo.
£20 for 6 characters is so cheap, don't like getting into these discussions but it's absolutely fair value.

You could on the reverse pay £12.59 for some skins for a character that you'll probably play with for 2 hours before the game ends (Persona 5 Royal)

Hah. At least you could pick and choose who you wanted.
