Super Smash Bros. Hori GameCube Controller (Wii / Wii U) - £23.85 @ Amazon

The Hori brand is known for producing high quality controllers which they've made for the SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii and now the Wii U (although this is also compatible with Wii due to connecting straight to the Wiimote).

So while the price is higher than the PDP controllers (they're about £19 now) you're also going to receive a far superior quality GameCube-designed controller for your gaming needs.

Do note that the Hori and PDP controllers only have digital triggers (clicky shoulder buttons) but other than this they're almost identical (especially the Hori).

P.S.: If you feel the price is too high then sign up for a Flubit account and perhaps one of the suppliers may drop down to £19-20.

Hori controllers tend to run out of stock (they're that good) but I've already the NGC Adapter coming with my Super Smash Bros. Bundle so hopefully they'll have them in production for sometime just in case I want to order one in the future.

Hori > PDP

This one looks much better than the PDP controller, but I would still go for the original gamecube controllers if you were looking to get the adapter.

However, on top of smash bros, if you were to use it as a classic controller on the wii / wii u for other games then this one is the real deal

Is this thing not even wireless? Blimey Nintendo, it's 2014...ditch the wires!!

Definitely 8). 100% genuine and also has the 3m cable...

I guess this would be no good for playing some older gamecube games then? Mario Sunshine a no go?

Due to legality maybe I shouldn't say this but a certain member from a different forum who uses Nintendont (i.e, allows to play GameCube games natively on the Wii U) on his Wii U said that this is useless (unable to run & spray at the same time) to play games like Mario Sunshine because it lacks analogue triggers which are extremely important to a game like this.

So for GameCube games your best options are the authentic controllers which are these:

I wouldn't recommend buying a used GameCube controller because the analogue sticks tend to be in very messy conditions (probably due to the owners than its quality ageing).

This isn't a Nintendo controller, it's made by Hori. Although the nintendo controller also still has wires.

I have loads of old gamecube controllers. Will they work in the wii u just like in the wii and gamecube? All I need is the adaptor right>?

Yes they will work. You just need to buy the adapter.

Real men use these:

Then get a Wavebird. Nintendo probably has the most diverse controller options this (and last) generation.

I love my Wavebird and you can pick them up or £15 nearly new or refurbished.

Cable length for these Mario.Luigi pads has be worried. I'm going to get 2 x more Wavebirds.

Nintendo of Japan, Nintendo of America nor Nintendo of Europe have said whether the NGC Adapter will be compatible with Wii and Wii U games but we just know that Nintendo of UK (their credibility isn't comparable to the rest of the other branches) stated it'll be playable with Super Smash Bros. at least.

I don't know why NoJ/NoA/NoE are dodging to give us an answer about this (they could've talked about it on before yesterday's Nintendo Direct).

Whereabouts are they selling them for £15?

You need to keep an eye out for ebay but avoid incomplete items. Many are missing the receivers.

The Wavebird controller is fantastic. IGN didn;t think so when two of their staffers reviewed it:
uk.ign.com/art…iew
Most users gave it highly favourable reviews, even in recent times.
engadget.com/pro…rd/
And not one single neg. review on Amazon:
amazon.co.uk/Nin…s=1

One man's junk is another man's treasure. An official, comfortable and responsive controller, well made, good battery life, good range and not too heavy. Hard to see the downside.

That it can only be used for a single game. (At least as far as we know at this moment in time) is quite a big downside.

I still have my Waverbird controller and have loved using it on my Wii. I don't know how people have played Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl etc without one as the Classic Controller is a piece of ...!

Anyway, it's great news that these types of controllers can continue to be used on newer Nintendo consoles as they're my favourite controllers ever!

[quote=unrandomsam]

You post is unclear. Do you mean:
You can only play one game.
You can only play a one player game.

If the former, then that;s obviously incorrect. If the latter then it depends if you;re talking of the Wii or the Wii-U. The Wii, you can connect multiple Wavebirds. You can also connect multiple Wavebirds to the Wii-U but you need a GC controller converter which costs between 10 and 20 and allows 4 pads to be connected. I own a Wii.

yeah i agree with some comments just buy the official one at about £25, its nicer.

Also remember some Wii consoles don't have gamecube controller slots and aren't capable of playing the gamecube games. This should be noted.

White, Black, and Red wii models have the Gamecube controller and memory card slots and can also play the discs. The Wii mini and the limited edition London 2012 blue model cant play Gamecube games and you also cant use the controllers.

Just a heads up.
EDIT:

What i wrote above is applicable to the UK only. Apparently in the states later wii's known as 'family editons' where the Wii name on the front of the console is horizontal rather than vertical also cant play gamecube games or use the controllers. The blue london 2012 edition is like this. Just to make everything clear.

Otterboxer @ The white GameCube controller supposedly is not as good as the original according to a user here on Hot UK Deals who has compared them (so I've decided to not buy one of those any more).

That aside, the Wiis which have the GameCube controller ports (and so the GameCube memory card loaders) are on the top which have a door on the top, they're easy to recognise as the newer Wii models are horizontal (standing down as such a DVD player) whereas the originals were in vertical position.

This all isn't to say that you can't play GameCube games on your newer Wii you can even on your Wii U too, as long as you use Nintendont it's possible (it doesn't emulate GameCube games it plays them natively since the hardware is the identical).

Edit: Here's the quote from the user who compared OG GameCube to the White GameCube:

worth bearing in mind these white GC pads have inferior quality triggers … worth bearing in mind these white GC pads have inferior quality triggers to the original runs. i can confirm this too - the L on mine has a rattle and is stickier than it should be. might be worth waiting to see if the black smash edition pad is the same in this regard.might be something to do with this, found while googling on the smash boards:"The 3m cord white controllers lack metal bars in the analog slider elements older versions had. You can take them out of an old controller and put them in your white controller."

Hi, if buying new and boxed and if the buyer didn't know about the horizontal/vertical Wii logo they more than likely wouldn't know whether it had the controller flap or not. (i did mention that above so your preaching to the converted) Most people aren't going to mod so nintendont doesn't come into it. Re the new white controller i have it and its close enough ever so slightly not as solid and although i don't have the hori to compare i'll take an oem controller anyday over a third party one.

I used to sell mods on ebay (before the bottom dropped out of the wii mod market) so am well versed. Actually funnily i'm reformatting an old drive from WBFS atm.

They would know because you can tell by how the Wii logo is positioned. There's the Wii vertical and Wii horizontal logos.

Wii vertical (= does have GameCube ports)

http://i.imgur.com/A1J9P2B.jpg

Wii horizontal (= doesn't have GameCube ports)

http://i.imgur.com/tduDFy9.jpg

Nintendo made it easier for customers to know which kind of Wii they wanted by modifying the position of the logos they were to how they are now.

Hori has a Pikachu themed controller coming up:

http://img1.ak.crunchyroll.com/i/spire4/6b19ab4da46ac278a4c5e41da50db6961415920474_full.png

Tried ordering via Flubit, they sent me the PDP one instead. Hori ones are now out of stock.

To add insult to injury, if I wanted the PDP controller it would have been cheaper to just buy it straight from Amazon...
