For some reason, members of the public can only buy the surface laptop with a configuration of 4gb ram and 128gb ssd or 8gb and 256ssd most people wouldn't spend that much and only have 4gb ram and the difference between the next model is quite a lot if you don't need the additional hard drive space. However in the commercial Web site, Microsoft sell an 8gb version for cheaper than the public version (albeit with a smaller hdd).

These laptops are great but impossible to upgrade.

Also if you select the Windows 10s version and also the student pricing (if you have an eligible account) as well as going via quidco, you can get an 8gb surface laptop much cheaper than in the shops.

If you want the full windows 10 operating system, you should be able to upgrade for free if you are quick. Or obtain a legitimate license elsewhere.
Will be surprised if you can get a better deal elsewhere

It is a stunning bit of kit but extremely expensive. At this time unless I was desperate I would wait for the 8th gen processor refresh as that’s quad cores all round.

Also that according to iFixit, it should get a -1 out of 10 for repairability as you have to ‘destroy it to open it’. Even MacBooks have pentalobe screws so you can replace parts without damage...

I agree but this deal makes it just that bit more affordable. If you compare it to a macbook Pro it's probably a little cheaper however and looks even better. It's impossible to user service or upgrade but that's the trade off between stunning ultra books versus less portable chunky heavy laptops
Good deal but unfortunately the alacanta cover kills it for me. This will look terrible in no time.
Had a few of these.... They look nice thats about it.... Went back to macbook. Now on a xiaomi notebook pro and wow what a laptop......

Did you find a UK supplier for the xiaomi notebook pro or import?

I'd like a warranty or the option to return ideally.
Luuuurve Surface devices but 128GB in 2018? Even in 2017, 2016, 2015? 2014 was the last time I bought a 128GB SSD in a laptop and felt it was a little on the pointless side back then!

unfortunatley no. i didnt, that being said ive took a risk with warranty but absolutley loving the laptop, touchpad isnt as good as a mac but miles better than anything surface..............

£825 delivered for the xiaomi notebook pro (inc delivery / insurance / customs insurance)
8th gen i7
16 gig ram
256ssd + 1 spare nvme m.2 port
mx150 2 gig graphics

cant beat the specs and the money and the design is very very nice, one of the main reasons i like(d) macbooks so much, this is about as close to a macbook you can get without it being a macbook in terms of design.

and should be getting (eventually) £75 back from topcashback

That’s what I thought and saw this article:

The other thing that annoys me is no discrete graphics option.

What a laptop that is! If it's same model it's currently £737 + cashback on that website. I'm seriously tempted to replace my dell XPS 9530 which is showing its age a bit now.

Awesome thanks.

Sorry few more questions:

Any custom fees?

If it shipped from Europe what country? (asking incase it needs to be returned as they dont offer free returns).

US keyboard?

Did it come with power plug adaptor?

I've had a surface book for about 2 years as part of my job as a software engineer and it's the best laptop I've had ... and I've had the picked of Dells, Samsung and Apple.
Hah that dirty alcantara reminded me of people buying "vintage-look" clothes or ripped up jeans surely a feature not a bug

you will more than likely get charged customs fees, but take ou the customs fees insurance for about £14 i think. if you do get charged customs, pay them and you can claim them back from light in the box. i did not get charged customs in this case.

shipped from china

and it is US keyboard, however its the same keyboard as the macbook except for me it has dollar sign instead of pound sign.
not a problem, i used microsofts keyboard layout editor (free) and just edited the dollar sign to gbp, created an installer, installed as a new custom language and job done.

unfortunatly the xiaomi`s all come with foreign charger, but you get an adaptor. if you dont like this you can get any usb-c type charger but it must support 20volt @ 2.5amp or above, the apple macbook usb-c charger (61watt) should do it as it outputs at 20v / 3.95amp IIRC.

anker do a charger the "PowerPort+ 5 USB-C with power deliver" this will not work with it, very good charger but the usb-c @20 volts only gives 1.5amps so no good.
The xaomi is over 15"screen tho? Prefer the 13. 5" form factor
