Getting into summer so who needs a roof (OK maybe I'll take that back); well how about one of the best budget sportsbikes available for less than most of your 2 year car lease deals (and you own it). I doubt it is possible to beat the performance:price from a new bike and it also comes with a 2 year warranty.

The SV650S is a true sportsbike that offers fantastic performance from it's torquey V-twin engine and flickable handling meaning it has proved itself a winner on the race track in small capacity racing.

A perfect bike to get back into the saddle and not as intimidating as an all or nothing four cylinder.

Arguably a better (and cheaper) bike than competition from the likes of the Yamaha MT-07, ER6F and small capacity parallel twins. A great way to commute or enjoy the summer.

Note the deal posted above is for Northern Ireland, but it can be found in the mainland for £4719 at:

personally I'd rather have the Yamaha MT07 for the same money

I had one of these afew years ago and they are a fun ride if somewhat of a vibrator through the handlebars. The SV1000 model gives a tad more bite though

Not easy to get the MT07 for less than list (£5350) and it's more of a streetfighter with an upright seating position but then taste is subjective.
My problem with the MT07 is the power delivery, the Yama wants to lift the front more easily and is less planted over the scrappy roads round me, it is a given the stock suspension is soft on both bikes.
The SV in contrast has a more progressive delivery allowing me to pin the throttle on the straights and accelerate from corners more cleanly. I'm faster on the SV but suppose you feel fast everywhere on a naked; both are nice bikes but I feel the SV is is a more complete bike. Love twins, just a different sensation to a supersport 600.
Test rode both but ended up on a 2nd hand 750 ducati (heart over head decision).

Got two for the kids so they can get themselves to school, I'm fed up of driving.

UPDATE
: I feel I must apologize to everyone who liked my comment. I was dishonest; I have no human children, nor do I drive a car, due primarily to my being a hedgehog.

I also have no hedgehog children, as I was tricked into marrying a hairbrush with stuck-on googly eyes.

I feel very ashamed.

Forgive me.

Over-priced by £500, but they are a good, small, starter bike with a lovely engine. Need to be supple to ride one though.

Yeah because bikers are never at fault eh..........*rolleyes*

Great value for a first big bike. But youd get bored of it easy and want something better quite quickly. Although at this price you wouldnt lose a great deal.

Old tech too.

But its horses for courses..if you want a more modern better bike (brand new) then youll have to find another 2 grand at least.

Death wish

do we need full bike license for this?

These are great starter bikes, for gurls

Yes, however I believe one of the lower license classes can be used with a restricted ECU.

I got a full bike licence a fair while ago and before the need for seperate tests, but yes I assume so based on the power.

Wonder whether they're so cheap because EU rules are due to come into force soon meaning that every new bike needs to be equipped with ABS

Also... learnt to ride on one of these - great fun!

based on my experience of driving around 800 miles a week on motorways, A and B roads, bikers really don't care if they cut you up or weave in and out of traffic. Different rules for them.... apparently.

For goodness sakes, do we really need to do all of this? We should be united against our common foe, no not the council and their pockmarked roads, no not drivers who drive too slow/fast or too close/far from the car in front, not roundabout hesitators, not middle lane hoggers, not even police cameras. Our true hatred and venom should be reserved for cyclists wearing Lycra, so come on guys, let's work together!

I am, of course, only joking!

easy to restrict with two washers in the air intake. did it for my son after he passed his test. no problem with insurance. A great first big bike with good handling

I agree with this quote. why pay more for something when no need to. As long as Pre-Reg comes with all Warranty's save yourself loads!!!. At end of day who cares if it's not bran spanking new as long as it looks good and gets you from A-B. Jew ones lose value soon as driven off forecourt.

Do the Christian ones hold their value better?

Buy British.

Everyone buy one of these and make sure you are on the organ donor list, you'll be doing me a big favour

Because we need more donors

Or short....

great 1st 'big bike' or solid commuter. hot!

Decent first 'big' bike but as already mentioned, you will get bored quickly and want to move on, especially if you do commute on it as it is a vibey bike which can get a bit annoying at times.

Great price and you likely wont lose much on resale as they're very popular.

Don't you love the non-bikers who, although this deal holds no interest to them, have to make stupid, uninformed comments like "death wish" and "widow maker"?
Feel free to go back to your cages, sit in the far right overtaking lane doing 65mph because you're trying to make a point whilst at the same time talking on your mobile, trying to unwrap a chocolate bar and deal with 2 rugrats in the rear seat.

Took about 10 seconds to find one at Cupar Motorcycles for £4,395. Given time you'll find even cheaper.

had one of these for 3 years several years and bikes ago. Still good bikes even though tech has moved on. Great value now that market prices have rocketed. I paid £3500 back in 2005

Yep, and at most junction the look, look and look again rule for drivers is rendered useless because bikers ragging it at 60mph when limits 30.

Motorbikes are scary.
