How does Swan compare to Hikvision?

Similar in quality. I'd prefer hik personally. Better interface.

Although I wouldn't buy any analog nowadays. Quality's awful compared to ip (obviously cheaper).

Good look seeing a clear face shot from 15 ft away
I just moved into a house which have old CCTV system (guess 10-15 years old). The images are awful. As the wiring is already there iam hoping just to replace the cameras and the hard drive.
Here are the images from this system, had it a while and it's been a really good buy, shame the app is a bit pants, I did try the colour night view image but do prefer it with just the IR lights supporting the camera

I used to have a Swann system, it was terrible, major software issues constantly..

I paid not much more than this for an 8 channel Annke (hikvision rebrand) 4K system with 3TB HDD Never looked back the software is a joy, quality is so much better too.

Could I have a link to the system you've got? The pictures look really good compared to my old system. I think it's time to upgrade
Sorry guys to ask but I really need advice. As I said before I found an old system in the house which is working but terrible image and crap app. My question is if I buy new system, is it a matter of replacing the cameras and the hard drive as the cables are already there? Also, what is POE? Apparently they give better picture..can I replace my old system with a POE system using the same installed cables?

POE is Power-over-ethernet. Different cables and you need a POE switch to connect the cables to.
Your current cables might support swapping to a newer system, but without a physical inspection I doubt anyone will say yes.
Hikivision Chinese company? Data protection issues?

Daytime shots.

OK bit of info you need to be aware of. this is 4K its a standard BNC connection and it runs at 12.5fps at that resolution, you can lower to 1080p for 30fps if you really want, but then you lose quality. they run on standard BNC cables not POE but the NVR will take 2 x additional Channels from a ONVIF camera.

Look at the image above, I can see and capture motion from the very end of the street, I can see people and cars moving off into the distance including colour etc, but.. for detail, the Lime green car above right, the plates can be very easily read from that distance, but the car behind it the Dark green Astra, the plates cannot be read. but anythign driving past my house during the day i can clearly capture their plates. the issue really is the cameras, if you really want to capture plates at a distance you can buy a camera suited to that and add it into this system.

The sign on my brown bin can be zoomed into to just about make out the councils telephone number and clearly see its logo, the van in the drive on the top right, you cannot make out the name of the company or its logo, but can easily see the colours and people getting in and out, moving around etc.

The motion is great, you can pick zones and draw motion areas, to stop false alerts from trees and bushes etc.. as you can see i have a privacy filter for my neighbours window.. remember when using CCTV GDPR compliance. I installed my original system because about 5 years ago, someone slashed all eight of my 2 cars tyres, costing my over £1k to replace them all, and i strongly suspect it was a neighbour.. but I never could prove it, so i put them in to protect my property, I upgraded as the Swann cameras started to fail, and Costco took them back without any issues and gave a full refund, but the Swann system was junk.

You can using the Guarding Vision App too for mobile access.

If you have BNC cables with 12v power then it should just be a case of swapping the cameras over, as long as the cables are all still OK POE is basically Ethernet connections with power down the same connection, it then gives each camera a physical IP address too they can be better in many ways, but they are also more expensive.

8mp, annke is hikvision, and domes are easier to position when mounted but quality should be the same
Thank you very much. Actually the Amazon deal you posted is very good as it is at least £100 cheaper than buying from Ebay

@oversleep this one supposedly has starlight colour night capacity but cant find any genuine user footage to see how good it is or if it is anywhere near hikvision colourvu quality at night.

@MrSprkle i have ordered these instead I'll have to swap the cables over from my BNC but I think it will be more future proof that way in case I'd want to upgrade the cameras or dvr any time in the future.

Great price for a cracking bit of kit, previous offer price 2 and 7 months ago was £349. I ordered the 4 channel system 2 weeks ago and am returning it for this one!

Here,Ive been waiting till it gets dark outside to get the screenshots of the views. Ive got to say its night and day compared to my old ones.Images are clear and you can see clear faces as soon as someone gets on my property. Shame this system doesnt support the Starlight Color Night Vision or I can't find it in the settings. Other than this im quite pleased with it and can always expand it with another 4 cameras.

@zochus15 looks good mate.

Decent quality footage for the relative low outlay compared to some very expensive systems.

Surely it has to be a setting somewhere as its advertised as starlight colour night vision although I believe this does need some minor lighting/ illumination outside to show colour.

Edited by: "Little_Lee" 25th May
@zochus15 got to be a setting somewhere. Images definitely imply it has colour night vision but as per hikvisions colourvu they need some ambient street or porch lighting to work or I think they switch to normal IR grayscale.

Looks great pleased your happy, the setting on mine to use colour at night is directly on the camera you need to use PTZ controls to get into each cameras individual menu.
