Came across this deal from Costco while looking for a decent security system.
Comes with 4 cameras and 500GB hard drive.
Looks good to me, let me know if anyone has used this or if there is a better deal out there.

It looks good, but still unsure. Is this the price including VAT?

Yes, £199 incl. VAT

Swann has'nt got the best name in reliability, they sell them in Maplins and I read somewhere someone had a faulty camera, Swann wanted the customer send ALL the kit back including the working cameras before they would look at a repair, not ideal when it's screwed to your wall.

I'd go for an IP based system myself so you can add/replace as necessary and mix and match models, more expensive in the long run though.

HD POE system available for around £150 now, easier to run and extend cables with better quality picture...

Not with 4 outdoor cameras, power supply, DVR etc.

I've paid £90 each for 3mp HIKVision domes, £40 for Poe switch, and using a £150 Synology box as a DVR and that doesn't include hard drives

is it not worth spending £100 more to get this system: amazon.co.uk/Tec…H7M ?

as a cctv installer, i would recommend eyeball cameras rather than dome-the covers seems to scratch really easily and they are mostly very flimsy.

and bullet cameras are a magnet for cobwebs.

Recommend hik vision IP cameras, POE and NVR
DS 2cd2132 I think model 3mp, onboard storage, audio, phone remote view - brackets £10 extra
pricing as per previous comments

Are you happy with the setup?
I read that there are some issues with HIKVision cameras working with Synology?

My brother has just purchased the Swann Pro-Series 960H from Maplin
I don't know much about it but it gets terrible reviews on Amazon.
Since it's Maplin, I'm not surprised.

Yes all working fine, I just made sure the camera model I bought was on the list of comptible cameras on the Synology website.

The only 'problem' I've had is that the browser plugin for Surveillance Station doesnt work very well on a Mac PC, obviously not a problem if your a Windows user but this seems to be a common problem with other CCTV browers plugins.

The only other thing to mention is the Synology boxes only come with 2 camera licenses so could get expensive at £45 for each extra one you may need, the Synology is a great little box though as I also use it to stream movies and music around the house allong with a few other things.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm a mac user myself.
Any issues running the plugin on an iPad or smartphone?
