Software is good, especially with the latest firmware, they have pretty much completely re-designed the UI.

Can save video (even can edit in-suite clips) and export either via cloud or USB drive. The playback is very good and intuative and easy to understand.

The format is also exportabe in MP4, one of the most regonized formats on the earth. You can also export it in RT which is their own format allowing for greater control if imported back into their software.

Have no idea why you're finding it so difficult but I suggest reading up plenty of helpful content on the internet.

How do you a firmware upgrade? Is it in the settings?

Correct.

You login and go to the device settings. in there will be a upgrade button, make sure the unit is connected to the internet. Super easy.
Had a look before you replied and on mine and it looks like it wants the file from a usb drive. Googled firmware updates for my model and nothing appeared on the Swann website so maybe it's a bit dated. DVR4-4400 iirc.

Yeah like all security systems they do tend to phase them out over the years. You might want to contact their support if it's within 2 years.
Currently 279.99 on currys but they have a 10% off code at moment on website, also do price match so gunna give them a ring
Tenner cheaper now, £229.99 at Screwfix.
I have something like this and will be replacing. Pretty poor DVR - skips a lot, randomly dtops recording and date and time are not synced. I'd check out ethernet cams and wifi/SD card cams.

Hello
Really after a system like this as someone has been creeping round my house over the past week.

What system would you recommend

I'd say I need 4 cameras.
