T&C:
1. These terms and conditions apply to the 'Refer a Friend Offer' ("Offer"). By participating in this Offer, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions. This Offer is only open to the following: Referrer - the existing Barclays personal current account customer who has received this Offer directly from Barclays; and Applicant - the prospective new Barclays personal current account customer who the Referrer refers to Barclays and who switches their personal current account to a new Barclays Bank Account, Premier Current Account, Graduate Additions Account or Higher Education Account ("New Account"). The Applicant should not be an existing Barclays personal current account customer, but could have other products with Barclays. The Applicant also must not have closed a personal current account at Barclays within the last six months.
2. The Applicant must open their New Account, and apply for a full account switch under the terms of the Current Account Switch Service ("Switch") to their New Account, before the closing date included in the e-mail Offer that was sent to the Referrer.
3. The Applicant can open their New Account and apply for a Switch either in branch or online.
4. The e-mail to the Referrer containing the Offer will also include a unique code that specifically relates to the Referrer ("Referral Code"). To participate in this Offer, the Referrer will need to provide the unique code to the Applicant/s to quote when applying for their Switch.
5. The New Account must have two direct debits in place and be credited with salary or income of £1,000 or more in each of the first three full calendar months after the month in which the New Account was opened and a Switch completed. Transfers between the Applicant's own Barclays accounts will not be included.
6. Three full calendar months after the Switch both the Referrer's and Applicant's accounts will be assessed to ascertain if the qualification criteria outlined in these terms and conditions have been met. Following an assessment that each qualification criteria has been met, the Applicant's New Account will be credited with £50 ("Referral Amount") within fourteen working days.
7. The Referrer must keep their Barclays personal current account open until the time the Referral Amount payment(s) are due to be made.
8. The number of referrals that can be made is not limited. Each Applicant is eligible for one Referral Amount payment. Applicants with joint accounts will only be eligible for one Referral Amount payment.
9. If a New Account is not opened, if a Switch is not completed and the qualification criteria as required by these terms and conditions are not met, the Applicant will not qualify for the Referral Amount.

11. We will use e-mail to correspond with both the Applicant, reverting to letter if no valid email address is held. Where the New Account is in joint names, we will write to both Applicants via email, subject to them both having a valid email address. Where only one has a valid email address, we will only write to that person. Where we send a letter, because neither party has a valid email address, we will write to both Applicants jointly in one letter.
12. This Offer is not open to employees of Barclays or any company within the Barclays group.
13. This Offer is not transferable to another person.
14. This Offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer.
15. New Accounts opened will be subject to status and eligibility and not all Applicants will be successful in opening a New Account.
16. Barclays reserves the right to withdraw the availability of this Offer at any time without notice.

Or switch to a decent bank that didn't support apartheid and get £125, google is your friend. £50 is pretty poor enticement when numerous decent banks have better incentives. Personally I'm with Nationwide and pay £10 per month so that I get gadget/phone insurance, breakdown cover and travel insurance.

Don't use Google, switch to a decent search engine that doesn't practise tax avoidance and doesn't have dodgy privacy issues ...

Sounds good, is there any cash incentive with nationwide though?

I think there used to be a quidco but not sure now. Is a v good deal as you also get 3% interest so if you have a regular high balance this offsets some of cost. Plus free foreign withdrawals, breakdown Inc homestart (which a lot don't) and extended warranty cover.
Wouldn't touch Barclays, go first direct or Nationwide as per previous comments!

Thanks, just applied. Stick £2500 and the interest will go towards the £10 fee. Worth it for me with phone insurance etc

HSBC is good with interest as they will give you a bit of interest even if your money is above £2500 and I managed to get £12 for interest for £2500 every month for a year and I used their regular saver, [putting it £300 or £100 a month, which will give me 4%! Nationwide is mean as it won't give you a penny more even if you have more than£2500

Barclays have been voted the worst customer service in the industry, so beware!

Never had a problem with Barclays - been with them for over 25 years

Don't switch. .. you don't get 50... but defo you get peace of mind. worst customer service ever

Thanks OP, been having problems obtaining First Direct's £125 and will leave soon, so this deal is good timing.

Barclays.... Avoid. Been waiting about a year to get PPI claim. Received an acknowledgement from them but that's it.
Not a hope in h*ll of me switching accounts to them, even if they offered 10 times that amount

Barclay's online banking is very poor, almost like they don't want you to use it! - Lloyds has the best I've seen

Ive been with Barclays for around 15 years or so, never really had a problem with them. My wages go in and I spend them. Think people will only have problems with banks if they are either rubbish with money management or have a lot of money and need better rates. Can't even remember the last time I went into the bank, I do it all on their website managing 6 accounts with no problems at all, find it very user friendly, the app is also very easy to manage your accounts.
Having said all that, to go through the hassle of changing a bank account for £50 to me doesn't seem worth it especially when there are better deals out there as mentioned above.

Why, I put my money where i get something back. They make enough money off the interest if you have money deposited. Santander give me 3 % on a balance of up to £20000. Barclays gave me pennys. I have just had £150 for switching account to Halifax. You stick with Barclay s for 25 years and get nothing from them or you can shop about and make money.

Aside from the qualities of the offer, where are the details of the £50 for switching? I can't see anything on the website and one of the top hits on Google for a relevant search is this page.

Agree, they offer a very good service and their mobile apps and internet banking is the best I've used so far. However, other banks offer significant incentives for switching or staying with them, which Barclays almost never does. The £50 offer here is a rare one and is especially useful if you were already thinking of switching to Barclays.

+1. I was banking with them and then close it later. Really pain of the ass if you have an issue to resolve ...
They employ reasonable number of incompetent people ..........
I will need £500 incentive to rejoin ....
