If you are looking to save some money on your energy bills and switch providers, it's worth having a look at what electricity/gas deals there are currently. Energy Helpline gives a comparison and switching service (accredited by Ofgem) and is currently offering £40 Argos vouchers for a dual fuel switch by the 18th November.

Energy helpline - Dual Fuel Medium Usage Example

The below quote prices are based on switching your electricity and gas (dual fuel), and is based on a secnario of medium energy consumption (12,000 kWh/yr gas, 3,100 kWh/yr electricity). This is a rough guide but will vary based on your own personal energy consumption as well as your location.

Top 5 Quotes:

1. Toto energy £968 p/a
2. Toto energy £968 p/a (Smart)
3. Avro £983 - has decent customer feedback
4. So Energy £989 p/a ( So owl green)
5. First Utility £992 p/a

The rates are comparable to other Energy price comparison sites, although some of the newer mobile app energy providers such as Powershop and Pure Planet are not available so worth looking at these separately.

Up to £40 Argos Vouchers when you switch

Until 11th November there is an incentive of £40 Argos vouchers if you switch your dual fuel, or £20 Argos vouchers if you switch a single fuel. Obviously the main factor is that you have a competitive quote to save you money on your energy, but the additional vouchers are a bonus if the quote results are favourable. Check the terms of the offer around voucher fulfillment.

Energy Helpline Switching Process

Energy Helpline can usually manage the whole switchover for you. All you’ll need to do is provide final meter readings when requested. If you’re in credit with your old supplier when you leave, you’re entitled to the money back so make sure you ask for it – it’s not uncommon to have a couple of hundred pounds sitting with your energy supplier.

I'm with Boost(Ovo) and was shocked how cheaper these are than Eon. Couldn't be happier.

I assume the standing charge is 11.02p per day? not p/kWh?
I'm with Utility Point - 2 months in and seems fine so far.
Hmm a couple of those 'Best buys' are debatable at best..

Solaplicity 66% have rated it as poor for customer service from the money saving expert poll of customers compared to a big six rating of 32% poor for BG or 22% poor from E'on...

Igloo you may aswell go with bulb energy both are variable and at least bulb electricity is 100% renewable with next to no difference in cost between them

If anybody is interested in Bulb energy they offer a referral scheme where you get £50 and the referrer gets £50, i give £25 of mine to charity when switch is complete. Just send me a DM and i can provide the link and will provide the proof of donation aswell.

Outfoxthemarket are by far the cheapest company out there currently but how can they be £60/70 cheaper than all the other challenger energy companies i'd be a little cautious.

They can be cheaper as they have lower overheads. The Big Six all have offices and a lot of employees to account for whereas these small firms have lower costs - no doubt if they were to scale they would have the same costs as the big guys.

It looks like the web site is screwed, the standing charge is a daily rate as per a quote below for RG post code

Bulb for me... Not only have they slashed my bills by 168 a year after being with BG, through the referral system they operate, I have earned £££££`s.

For each sign up you receive via your unique bulb referral code, both parties receive £50 credit each.

If you are interested in bulb, wish for a referral code, message me.

Great customer service, great online community, no exit fees and pay up to £60 to leave your current supplier plus 100% renewable ELECTRICITY, 10% renewable GAS.

Unit rate: 11.60p/kwh Standing Charge 23.39p/day (£85.37 year) ELECTRIC

Unit rate: 2.53/kwh Standing Charge 23.39p/day (£85.37 year) GAS

Dual Fuel discount: £14.29/year per fuel

Only slight downside, is lack of smart meter or warm home.

They are banned from taking new customers at the moment.

sadly far many people don’t change:( when it’s easy to do there should be no excuse sign up to a site like MSE’s and it’s easy to keep track of the best deals.

one watch out is many smaller suppliers don’t do warm home but you can still make massive saving.

My outfox is only 9.4p per kwh

they can do this as the more you use the higher your monthly fee...so if you use 6000 kWh per year or more you pay £15 a month on top, down to as little as £4.99 for under 2000....

brilliant idea as it promotes being careful

Well to be fair I have always had good service from them. If they are the cheapest again when my fixed tariff ends I'll stay. If someone else is cheaper I'll jump ship.
Avro energy were cheapest for me bar outfox the market, eversmart and economy energy which are up to £30 pa cheaper but with unproven or had inferior customer service ratings.

Avro have been great so far, a very slick website and no issues to report to date.

I've been with Iresa for over 2 years and never had a problem. It's the cheapest electric only supplier (Bulb is about £100 more p.a. in my area). I've read the comments above and on MSE, btw. I'm not promoting Iresa, just stating facts, but each must make their own decision.

I'll update if I leave when mine is due in August. If they mess me about I'll head down there with the GoPro and film a video.

You dont need to wait for your refund if you had a direct debit contract. Just go to your bank and claim the money under the "direct debit guarantee". Your bank will refund you. I've done this twice before with rogue utility companies. Ultimately every utility company is just out to con you if you let them.
Utility Warehouse guarantee to be the cheapest if you take all their services and offer a double-the-difference price promise. They also reward you for referrals (and give you free LED light bulbs for the whole house). So PM me for a referral link and as a happy customer for 14 years I'll be happy to oblige.
***Please do not offer / request referrals***
Do the utility point offers smart meters?
My switch to Utility point went great, kept updated all the way. Price was the cheapest in my area. They also offer a friend referral scheme as an incentive. Hot from me!
I am with Engie as my employer get 10 percent off on energy bills
Not able to quote for Northern Ireland!!
Not impressed!!!
Was with First Utility previously and would not recommend. Now with Ovo and very impressed so far. Free smart meter too!
