As you do on a Friday, myself and Goonertillidie were being work shy and discussing gaming when we found this huge list of games free to download.

We shall now be playing Sensi Soccer for the rest of the day so apologies in advance if we are slow to reply to anything.......ever.

Windows Users will need an emulator to run some of these games:

here is a link to the recommended emulator: D-Fend Reloaded

Awesome, you made my day

Fantastic - used to spend hours on EF2000. Such a realistic flight sim. Have downloaded again much to the (future) annoyance of the wife

Heat from me for SWOS alone.

Heat added to both of you guys. Happy New Year.

Wow... yes me too! Played that for hour after hour. Then the F22 TAW sequel after that.

You do know these are still illegal to download, right? Abandonware != Public Domain. And they're not even all abandoned! e.g. Simcity 2000

I used to be the EWC and my mate would pilot - was damn near impossible to operate joystick and operate the weapon / flight systems on the keyboard by yourself

I bought swos on the xbox 360 via live when I found out that it was available in its original state! Swos was my most played game compared to all the modern games collection that I had building up! No fifa or pro evo comes close to swos! Those days of playing swos on the amiga 600 cannot be forgotten!

I've just discovered SWOS on the PC through something called 'total pack' with a 2013/2014 roster and it's superb using an xbox 360 controller. I've got a PS3 and Xbox but SWOS on my laptop has put them in the shadows.

Totally agree!

Completely agree. Downloading SWOS as I type. Deeelighted.

Now all I've got to do is work out how to rig up a Competition Pro joystick (to be bought) to an OSX.

Thanks.

Yeah it's tenuous at best of these sites to claim this stuff. I can't imagine if you'd spent often a good couple of years coding a game you'd end up thinking "oh I think I'll just abandon that then" (_;) There's still an intellectual property holder somewhere. Actual free games come direct from the developers and/or publishers.

great find . some good role favorites on here

How are these legal?

Some of these games have been re-released on other platforms so cannot be classed as "abandoned".

Heat for being lazy on a Friday. Now what was this deal you're talking about?

The legality of this is dubious at best. Most of these games are available for sale at Gog.com, Steam etc

I've always relied on Home of the Underdogs for my abandonware - homeoftheunderdogs.net/

Really i glad I installed 16gb of ram, over clocked my i5 and bought a 670gtx power edition - might struggle with some of these bad boys!

Hot thanks

Anyone a fan of the original Diggers Diggers: Amiga CD32 Gameplay youtubeI had a go at playing it in a DOS emulator, which took my a day to get up and running on a Win Vista, it was a bit shaky, would crash randomly, and wouldn't allow me to save game progress, would happily pay good money to play this gem of a game on GoG, Hate to think what it'd take to get it working in Win 8.1

Reported this. Don't want this site full of illegal software

IIRC games like SC2k were declared abandonware by the publisher, GoG simply charges as you pay for the service of getting it running on a new OS "out the box".

Abandonware is still illegal. If they formally made it public domain, then that's a different matter. By way of poor-internet-analogy, the police saying they won't prosecute possession of cannabis isn't legalising it - it's just turning a blind eye. Feel free to supply a link to EA's statement, but them giving it away for free at some point in the past isn't even the same as declaring them abandonware - they gave away a load of the old Command & conquer games DRM-free a few years back - doesn't mean they don't still possess the copyright...

No, as should the publisher wish to give the game away free on GoG it can happen (as Fallout was recently). The only legal place to get these from would be the publisher or an authorised reseller. Not some website declaring it "Abandonware". There is no such thing as abandonware.
