Excellent price. Heat.
I really want this 😃
Just purchased at this price!
i purchased one ! good price
I bought (WD PR4100 24TB Reds @ 650£) on Prime Day . i am thinking i should have gone with Synology , the OS is very limited and cant do much, backup apps was ok not have many features like creating folders and drag and drop files to copy to NAS didnt work.. i still feel for 640 i got the 4x6TB Reds they it self cost 140£+ each i believe so thinking keeping and buy Synology ds918+ or above one any suggestion?
I got a 718+ and now regret it as only 2 bays aren’t enough for me. I know there is an oficial expansion unit but does anyone know of different device that is compatible with the synology (price is way to high) , so i can have more drives ?

Synology all the way, 718+ is my second one and wouldn’t choose anything else. Tried many things before and synology for me is the best. But yeah get a 4bay is you can afford it.
Thinking of getting one for the shed
I need 10Gbe!!

I got the PR4100 40TB (4x10tb) on prime day. I will be putting them drives into this NAS and sell the PR4100.

The 6tb are around £170 , 4 = £680. If only paid that and really need all that storage, you basically got the nas for free. If 4 bays are enough look at the 918+, compare both and decide.

google.co.uk/amp/s/nascompares.com/2019/02/15/synology-ds1019-vs-ds918-nas-which-should-you-buy/amp/

Put the wd nas on eBay and get some pounds back. Or use it just for vpn/downloading stuff but obviously a bit overkill for that.

Gone?
Expired I think?
Looks like it sold out with Amazon
This or a qnap
I voted hot, but I missed it!

Bah, was looking to upgrade my 1517+ so I can get some 4k transcoding goodness

edit:

OOF, one came back into stock just as I posted, snapped it up, bargain, nice one OP, mine's coming on Sat. Straight swap of my 5 x 12TB and SSD's, excellent!

Going to have a yearish old 1517+ for sale soon

No hesitation in recommending the Synology. I've always used WD and have never had an issue however comparing them together I'm now gutted I didn't move to Synology sooner.

Great bit of kit.
I tend to knock dsm auto update off after the 1st patch
wakkaday18/07/2019 18:17

This or a qnap

I heard great things about qnap but personally I’m using synology for 3 years now (from Hp micro server) and find that the DSM in synology is really great and easy to use. If I were to upgrade my ds416 I will continue with another synology without hesitation
shinds18/07/2019 17:05

I need 10Gbe!!

You can have it. For only £29.00 more.

I've never used Synology so can't compare, but have nothing but praise for my Qnap which currently runs a web server, SQL database, CCTV, Plex media server, VPN server and more without breaking a sweat.
Was this a misprice as it's not even showing up as available from Amazon anymore as if they took it down rather than them running out of stock?

Annoying as I have a price tracker going on the ds918+ for when it dips below £500 and didn't think to track the 1019+ as it was £600+ lol

are there any Synology's yet that have 10Gbe ?

how much was the PR4100 40TB on Prime Day ?
I bought a g4400 ts150 for £125

More powerful and cheaper albeit bigger. Don't get why it's so expensive can anyone shed light,?

I went the HP N54L route a few years back running xpenology. However I am contemplating going to an actual Synology Nas as they are smaller (less than half the size of the microserver which is small compared to ts150 server), quieter as even with a pico PSU N54L still whirrs from case fan, more power efficient which adds up over time of ownership and easier to upgrade to latest version of DSM.

I used to build pcs etc in an attempt to save money up front but nowadays ive decided my time having to research how to upgrade stuff is worth much more than the upfront cost so would rather pay for something that has been made specifically for the job as that is what you are paying for here

This NAS has apollolake CPU, so it has x254 and x265 hardware transcoding. So in terms on transcoding Plex media the J3455 in this NAS will run rings around thevG4400 by a country mile.
