Can you upgrade ram
I wonder if Plex will start supporting hardware transcoding for Synology now that they do it on the Shield?
Couldn't transcode it's way out of a wet paper bag.

That aside, decent.

it can if you use the DS app but then you lose any hint of DTS support. Very disappointing.
Been tracking the price for the last week or so since I accidentally bought two external hard drives instead of WD clouds from the outlet thanks to a helpful post which I misunderstood oO
It was £192. Seems to be £193 at the moment?

This being the case, what NAS would you use instead, that has better transcoding?

nvidia shield TV just got Plex server with transcoding.

Didn't really think the NVIDIA shield could be considered a NAS. Maybe with some storage attached?

I like my one of these. Plex works well into the Amazon Fire TV and it seems good to me. I don't know much about the transcoding side and don't use surround sound but its good for media and also for things like time machine backups etc.

Out of all the NAS I have tried Synology are the best, mainly due to the superb operating system. Although I don't like Plex so I'd be happy with this.
However anyone that does like Plex XPEnology is basically the same OS that synology use but can run on most hardware so a decent spec server with XPEnology would be best of both.
been waiting for a nas drive to go down in price and just my luck its back up

looking to get a synology ds216j (normal version) with 6tb
