I really want to upgrade my 116 to the 118. I couldn't do without my NAS now.
Any good for using as a backup server with RAID or better off with a microserver?
Great but as pointed out on a previous post, Plex doesn’t yet work on this device.

Deal breaker for me personally, otherwise it'd be almost perfect.
Here’s the info on why Plex doesn’t work

Yes, sadly the DS218+ isn't discounted at the moment and that's the one I'd like.

Or you could actually pay for it.

I do.... On 8 devices.

Your point?
Plex works on my 214play though when you try to stream two or more 1080p it seems to struggle a little bit.
I get the whole plex support being an issue for some and was aware ehen i bought the 118, but the ds set of apps works amazingly well and so far 100 present reliable. As I said, best purchase made.

Which is great for you but not for anyone wanting a 118/218 with ARM processors (DS218+ excluded)
Does this really only have 1GB RAM? I thought 4GB was the minimum for a NAS?

(I have been looking at a QNAP - but a lot more expensive than this - so wondering if this Synolgy would suffice for my own needs (personal home NAS, for backing-up pictures and documents, and watching movies from different locations)

Thanks

Works perfectly. Lightweight OS and a lot of the heavy lifting like transcoding is easily dealt with (the exception being MKV files which have never worked for me through Plex or the DSVideo app, regardless of file size).
Really? MKV is so common that’s a bit of a downer
Now even better: currently available at £204.97
