£171.11 - Amazon Warehouse for ‘Used - Very Good’ or £211.99 from a Third-party seller seems to be the cheapest prices currently available from the above Amazon link.
How do these work with Plex server?
paid £181.45 from CCL via Ebay during last 20% coupon. Right now the coupon is only 15% so £188

It must have subsequently sold out as it was sold new, directly by Amazon when I posted. Ebuyer still have it for the same price if you don't mind them

It will work ok for 1080p but will struggle with 4K and transcoding I believe. DS218+ is the one you need for major Plex use. Intel processor and double RAM

Thanks
Potential DS2020 mode round the corner. Maybe off loading old stock. I would wait personally. The processor in this is a Realtek RTD1296, the + model has an Intel Celeron J3355, so more future proof. Also more RAM, hotswap trays, USB 3.0 and copy button. Albeit it is £100 more but maybe more value for money over long run

This should make your decision easier:[Video]

It would if the presenter didn't repeatedly call the "218 Plus" the "218 PLAY" in error. As a result it is very confusing indeed. But to summarise, the 218+ is the one to get of performance matters. It also runs Docker if you need that feature. The play won't (needs Intel processor).

Indeed

I was waiting for the 2020 model to be released but they seem to be taking forever with an announcement. I may just got for the 218+ as I think a lot of the technology will be the same

I originally had the 218 Play and swapped it for the Plus some months ago. Also added 4gb of additional Crucial ram for £28. Been extremely pleased with it. Will watch with interest when the new model is launched but I can't imagine it will be enough to prompt me to upgrade just yet.
go for the DS218+ model
Go for 4 bays , Intel /x86 CPU, will run more software, more apps and you could run Raid5 , But syno do charge a LOT for smal upgrades in ram/cpu/bays.
Good software tho.
Newbie here. Can I transfer files from my phone to this? And can I stream movies from the nas directly onto a tablet?
i don't think a 2 bay NAS is worth anything
