Tado smart thermostat £7.99 per month cost but guaranteed £10 per month saving! Plus chance of a 10% discount!

Hi first post so please be gentle. I have rented a Tado smart thermostat. It is just like the British Gas Hive but even better. Cost is £7.99 per month (you have to pay the first year in advance). Tado guarantee a £10 per month saving from using the service. If you don't you get your money back and get to keep the thermostat. Can't loose out with this offer... Tado is better than Hive as your heating turns on based on you location using an app on your smart phone. Plus it also learns how quick you home warms up / adjusts this against the real time weather. Save some money, the environment and have a new gadget!
10% discount code is Richard10!

I'd love this! Guaranteed win for me - only turn my heating on perhaps 4/5 times per year, usually only for an hour - no way they could save me £10 per month!

They say on the site:
Monthly fees will be charged anually in one amount (12 months x £6.99 = £83.88) In case you have not saved at least £120.00 in heating costs after the first year, we will refund you all costs incurred during the last 12 months. No questions asked.
So you would just get the cost of renting refunded plus get to keep it. You could use you smart phone to turn on the heating those 4 times lol.

What happens if multiple people live in 1 house, some people are in whilst others are not..does everyone run the app?

Yes each person's smart phone would control the heating. You can turn off the location based 'intelligence' and then it will work more like Hive if it won't suit you. However, Tado will still take into account the inside and outside temperature /weather to optimise when you heating comes on plus you can turn it on and off with your phone.

It will work with more than 1 smart phone. You can turn off the smart location feature and it will just work like british gas Hive but be more intelligent as it will still check the temperature outside / adjust the start of the heating accordingly. Probably will save you less money though...

sounds good, i have a few questions.

1. Is there a monthly charge for the service beyond the 12 month period and how much is that.
2. If you stop subscribing what functions do you lose and what do you keep
3. Does the thermostat log the temperature of the thermostat to the cloud through the wifi
4. If you have two heating zones do they supply two thermostats?
5. Can you program it to keep the heating disabled completely regardless of ambient temp at certain time of the day - like when im not at work?

Sorry i don't work for Tado but from what I have read....

1. Yes you carry on paying the monthly fee. You can buy it outright instead but at a cost of £250.
2. You definitely loose the smart phone features. Think it just becomes a dumb wireless thermostat.
3. Yes you can log into a website to operate the thermostat plus see how much gas you have used etc.
4. No only works with 1 zone at the moment. On the website it does so they are looking at adding this in the future. I bet they will use wireless radiator thermostats so you can individually control different rooms.
5. Looks like you can add schedules so you should be able to come up with a time period for the to be off during the day / get it to work along side the phone app.

Hope this helps

this is a lot of rubbish. its just a wireless thermostat connected to your internet. proving you saved £10 a month will be tricky. what happens if you change supplier?

voted hot seems good
but not for me
boiler less than 6 months old has a fab thermostat

How can anyone prove they saved £10 a month, heating use varies on weather which is never constant and you have to factor in price rises. If its very cold your heating will stay on longer and that always varies.

Any coupon codes lying around to save a bit more?

i was on to the TADO customer service people about this, it only allows for the control of one thermostat at the moment so its still too early in development for it to work for me, however loving this kind of tech, tempted to go with the NEO system that heatmiser are offering at the moment, it offers muti zone control but will have to do more research to see if the tracking of temperature and heating is as good as TADO.

Multi zone costs hundreds of pounds. For the money this is the best you can get... If you have a mansion sized home multi zone would probably pay for itself eventually...

My house is small but i have separate controls for upstairs and downstairs, i want to make a longterm investment here so i think im gonna take the plunge and go with the NEO system, its £269 with two zones so its about the same ballpark as buying the TADO outright, but if you need two zones its my only option. Speaking to the folks at TADO though they were saying to watch this space that they are developing multi zone controls for their stats too. Can I ask if you have signed up for the rental agreement option - whats your plan once it ends are you going to claim you havent saved any money and just keep the stat?

I have had a proper look at the Neo... Would still be expensive as each zone needs a wireless thermostat then a valve also would would mean draining the system and wiring the valve with a 230v supply. Sounds like you are already half way there but for me it won't be worth the extra effort. I have a wireless thermostat already (Worcester boiler) the TADO will just connect wirelessly with my boiler it should be up and running within minutes. Plus I like the fact TADO takes into account the weather / how long you home takes to warm up which should save me some extra pennies.

I am planning on making sure it is saving me money / works well and then I will just buy it out right. TADO will knock off the price of the hire if you buy out right within 12 months.

only issue has been shipping time due to them having no stock however this is hopefully resolved as they have just received stock, I cant wait to get mine

Hi yes reading on Facebook it looks like they will be shipping these soon plus it looks like they may be turning round orders more quickly from now on. I am surprised this did not get mega hot but maybe the tech is still a little niche. I love new gadgets and technology, especially if it can save me money in the long run.

I will post a quick review when I receive mine..

If you call their customer service number all of the operatives currently offer you a 10% discount code for both the rental and buying option.
