How's there no subscription needed?

I thought tado screwed people with a £3/m for "smart" features, no?

The difference is the v3+ is subscription and the v3 isn’t. Just a one off £19.99 for life time so v3 is better

I have v3. Was offered new app and all features for 1 off payment, something like £20 if I remember correct.

That’s correct. You might be lucky to get it for £14 as there was an offer

Isn't the one-off subscription charge only for existing v3 users? If you sign up now, I don't think it's applicable.

No who ever owns a v3 is entitled to the one off £19.99 to upgrade the app. My brother done his 3 days ago so he’s all set with a lifetime subscription

That's what I'd read on forums and this page seems to suggest so too: tado.com/t/e…ts/

So there will be no costs to use the Auto-Assist Skill for existing customers who upgrade from a V1, V2 or V3 product for as long as you are using tado°.

Would be good to hear from someone who has actually bought v3 recently though.

Good to know, thanks. I'd read a lot of posts saying new customers couldn't do it. So maybe they changed it a while ago, as they seem to have got a lot of criticism over the subscription service.
Is this better than Nest?
It all seems a bit complicated to be honest

Probably will buy the nest e thermostat if I can find a good deal

Is this better than Nest?

I think yes, as it supports TRV's and isn't owned by Google.

I like mine, it’s very good
Iru78614/01/2020 09:52

I’m replacing my Nest with this

With this you can control individual radiators (with the additional TRV’s) so the lounge can be warm during the day but cold at night so the heating is more efficient - you can chose to use this to save money or increase comfort depending on your configuration/wife.
I bought this from Box in early December and was able to upgrade to the v3+ app with the subscription features for a one off fee (it was discounted at the time, £15ish I think).
Surely you have to query why tado stuff is being discounted so heavily seemingly everywhere? After market zoning systems are a major expense and you should check out the market thoroughly before parting with your cash. Not suggesting they are not here for the long term of course but personally I'm happy I went with Honeywell's evohome system. Honeywell are a 130 billion dollar company. Haven't tado recently scrapped their telephone helpline?

I had Tado and now I have Nest. Tado was better IMO
Does the Tado support opentherm?

They have moved to online support as the business is growing as was a better support
TheNorwichMarvel14/01/2020 12:55

What’s opentherm?

Something like (maybe wrong) extra controls to the boiler so the thermostat can adjust the water temperature as well as simple on/off - that's the water temperature within the heating circuit I mean. I think it just gives a lot more flexibility to the thermostat and makes it smarter. I understand many don't support it though. It does need a compatible boiler also.

The user reviews would suggest your view is a minority one, with some users waiting in excess of 48 hours for any sort of answer. We all know when any company does this it's usually to save money, basically. I note it's over 12 months since they raised 50 million dollars worth of funding in the market, although the contributors were very credible. They've been trading since 2011.
I would really love something like this but I feel like I need someone to come fit it all which likely doubles (at least) the cost?
The there is no point to buy at this time because window is finished the price is gone to down during Summer Time
I have had this for a couple of years. Great piece of kit. To confirm I pay no subscription, app runs on my phone, no restrictions. Also links up to Alexa, You can have a complicated heating schedule are just leave it auto. Auto tracks my phone, and automatically controls the temp for when I'm home or not, stops you from heating an empty home

Can you briefly summarise the steps? I have a boiler with a timer next to it and a thermostat in the hall... I assume this replaces all that?!?

Honeywell scrapped a home thermostat product as well, and closed the development centre working on it. I know, a friend was working on it. Size of the company doesn't guarantee a product life span.

Prices are set by the retailer not tado.

2 ways to look at it then. Certainly the manufacturer can influence the retail price by reducing the wholesale price. But if they haven't why are these seemingly always on permanent offer by retailers, thereby reducing their margin?
