Yes, I believe if your stat is wireless you need the extension kit, to replace whatever "receiver" you have connected to your boiler.
Don't forget there is also a rental option direct from Tado that could work out better for your circumstances.
Bought. Thank you. Saved a bit

Thought so thanks. Hive still works out cheaper for me (£80 as already have the hub) rather than this £180. Guess it depends how much the geofencing and HomeKit addition is worth.
interesting but if you need multiple zones then it could be quite expensive

Hopefully the TVR's will drop in price next
Returned (unopened) Extension kit which I bought 10 days ago and ordered the reduced price one (saving £26) and also the TRV kit and a Thermostat. Hopefully, that's all v3 still... I didn't really understand what exactly is the v3 - the thermostat or the bridge?! Anyone know?

Hoping the individual TRVs go down in price soon - need another 3 more

It's the Internet Bridge that's V3 (to support Apple Homekit) - the Thermostat and Extension Kit are unchanged.
Installed Tado last weekend, loving it already, just waiting for a discount on the TRVs too.
Tado Extension Kit (normally £79 - now £40.97): amazon.co.uk/tad…EBP
This is useful mainly for those who have a wireless (non smart) thermostat currently installed. You hook this up next to the boiler so that it can communicate with the Tado Smart Thermostat. If you currently have a wired (non smart) thermostat then you don't need this.

Smart Radiator (TRV) Kit (£139): amazon.co.uk/dp/…c=1
This is a kit (includes the bridge). If you need (at least 2) TRVs then from what I can see, it works out better to buy the TRV kit and the thermostat (below) as standalone. Total £240 for 2 TRVs and Thermostat.

Smart Thermostat (£99): amazon.co.uk/tad…h=1
This is not the kit (doesn't include the bridge). But if you're buying the TRV starter kit, then I think this is the way to go.
So I have a very old boiler and system. it has a thermostat in the hall and then a timer/heating/hot water control by the boiler.
I'd like to replace the timer bit and no longer use thermostat in the hall, moving into the living room.
Do I need the extension kit??

yes
You need an extension kit if

- your thermostat is wireless
- You do not have a combi boiler and have a hot water tank
Mysti775 m ago

yes

Thanks!

I'm guessing the only way to make any kind of multizone setup is to have the smart TRVs?
Just looking it seems that this with the extension kit has previously been on offer for £199 inc installation - i know can't time travel but given i'm not desperate I might wait until a similar deal comes again

I already have two zones in my house so getting the starter kit, extention kit (as i have a hot water tank) and an additional thermostat for the second zone. eventually (when price drops and i have money) i'll get the thermostat valves for only upstairs rooms
Hmmm...

Actually, i think i might just go for this - the extension kit hasn't been this cheap before...
Just called Tado to check a few things - one thing that's not very clear is that it seems the extension kit can only do wireless thermostat OR hot water - they can't currently do both.
Since I wanted to get the thermostat wireless (to have in the living room instead of the hall) but I need hot water, this is a bit of a bummer....
As far as i understand. I do not have a wired thermostat but a wireless instead. That means i will have to purchase :

1. Smart Thermostat Starter Kit £139
2. Extension kit £40.97

What about other brands like NEST and HIVE? are they the same? need to buy something else too if i do not have a wired thermostats?
We have a glo worm boiler with tanks in the loft. There is a thermostat on the wall as well as a programmer. Do I need to take the programmer off the wall as well as replace the thermostat?

That extension kit really warrants its own deal... Had my eye on it for ages and never see it dropped before! Sadly bought one a month ago...
Radiator valves are a bit of a minefield. If you have one that is registering it needs heat then the system will heat the whole house (I know dumb valves will still have their own temperature settings). So you’d need quite a few of them for it to work effectively.
Can these be used with any normal boiler? We don’t currently have a thermostat at all! Just temperatures on the radiators and an on/off boiler...? Assuming not

Depends on the boiler - check with Tado - might be something on their website... mine is about 7-8 years old and it'll work.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I'll need at least 4 in total for it to really work efficiently. I can leave 2 switched completely off since ones in the guest room and the other is in the out-house.

Don't think this is true, the extension is only to allow wireless thermostat and/or hot water, or if your boiler setup cannot work directly with the wired thermostat. I'd check with Tado again.

Interesting - just read through the site and you'd think they would mention if this was the case... sounds like the guy on the phone doesnt know what he's talking about

That said, can't decide whether to go for this or Hive... I already have a Hive hub so I think that I only need hivehome.com/pro…rue at £80

Create account on their site and they will guide you through selecting guide, based on what you have (by model). I think this is the most straightforward way of understanding what components you need.
