Or ebus which works with Worcester bosch?"Seems like most of EU has OT/modulation going and can get efficiency gains of 'up to' 16-20% (but not popular in UK it seems). I know nest does it and wondered if that's why it has a premium price compared to tado/hive etc.

tado does ebus, etc. But you need an extension kit for that. Extension kit is not a part of this starter kit. On tado forums they've listed the part number for the extension kit as V3P-EK01-TC-ML. Or you can also search for "Tado EK01-EN." You connect this to the boiler instead of the wireless receiver bundled in this kit.

I got this extension kit earlier this week from Screwfix for £79.99, but can't locate it anymore on their website. And, have a look at the tado manual for this extension kit to see whether your boiler is supported.

I never used their app, never registered either for their services. Just hooked it up to Home Assistant and blocked off tado's internet access for a full local usage. No need for app or subscription if you are already using Home Assistant. (edited)

If you've used it for years then I suspect you have legacy rights to some of those features. Those who purchased the 3+ have to pay for the auto geolocation features so it won't turn on and turn off automatically. It will still send you a message to do it automatically though.

I've no idea what that means to be honest. I've a new Worcester greenstar 4000 boiler and works perfectly.

I had to buy from eBay as no longer available from tado in the UK. Seems short sighted and a bit of a worry from a warranty viewpoint. Also bear in mind that even though you can have 25 trvs attached only 10 can actively 'call' for heat. The others will try to control but can only heat if one of the golden 10 is calling. It's a good system but has some minor flaws which tado seem uninterested in fixing.

Yeah, and add to it their totally confusing product descriptions! This whole extension kit v/s wireless receiver is a very poor product design, especially when they are not providing anything comparable to ebus/OT/etc in their wireless receiver. But they still claim that they are compatible with those protocols. Unless someone does a lot of research beforehand they wouldn't know about these differences.

And I've found their user manuals too a bit confusing.

But I still went for tado because it gives full local control, and no reliance on cloud, via Home Assistant, and also you get ebus/OT using their extension kit.

I wish UK mandated OT and none of this would have been a problem! (edited)

    This 100%...

Ive gone for nest in the end as its more of an evil I know than evil I don't... There is an unofficial adaptor kit for nest to get it OT compatible (with WB boilers). Brings the final cost to nearer £210 but hoping it'll save easily that in coming months... (edited)

No it doesn’t. Tado stopped Opentherm in the UK but EU ones still have them

Thank you both, its one of those things I spent a while searching for with no avail, I found hive (it's a simple no), but I think until you have the unit it's difficult to find this info, or perhaps dedication to find the answer!

The system is brilliant regardless from my experience. I couldn't care less about the paid bit. The features are certainly not needed or wanted from my perspective. All the main bits are free. The rest is just gimmicks.

Nothing that you need or in my case want. I've had the system a good while and wouldn't pay £1 month for the extra features. I wouldn't worry about it. All the main features are free and I highly recommend the system. (edited)

I’ve also been looking into the OpenTherm etc stuff and it does seem unnecessarily complicated.

My understanding is that the wired thermostat (available both solo and in a starter kit which includes the internet bridge) supports OpenTherm boilers, as does the wireless extension kit, as does the EU version of the wireless thermostat (again, available solo or as kit with internet bridge) - however the UK version of the wireless thermostat does not support OpenTherm.

Phew! So I’m buying a wired starter kit. Sadly not seen any deals on these lately.
