Says so much about the mugs (excuse the pun) some are these days that a 99p take away coffee is even considered a deal
Edited by: "rogparki" 19th May 2016
Honest Officer, I was only getting a coffee!!!

thanks, i love coffee
Compared to...

McDonalds £1.89
Starbucks £2.29
Wild Bean £2.29

...99p is a good deal but sadly no Wetherspoons on my way into work. Those above are only options to buy and it still be warm by the time I get to the office (unless I buy a Thermos and take in).
Is there a dedicated counter for the take away coffee or do you have to stand at the bar at 0830 with the alchies ordering their first pint of the day?

I got a coffee from McDonald's the other day and I'm sure it was £1.29.

Obviously this is still cheaper so voted hot. Will have to give the coffee a try and see if it's any good.
Er - Waitrose FREE - don't even need to buy anything !
Basic coffee is 99p at Pret. And you have more chance of being served this side of Christmas.
They will do a takeaway breakfast next.
Their breakfasts aint bad (always go for one when up early for holiday travel, etc.), just ruined by the smell of stale beer from the night before.

Starbucks is £1 for a comparable coffee, and has been for some time..... However. If you use one of their reusable beakers (£1) then you get 25p off each time and a grande instead of small (as long as you add milk at the counter rather than the till).......a far better deal in my opinion.

Er - Waitrose FREE - don't even need to buy anything !

Is it though? Is facebook, whatsapp and twitter free to use too?
Waitrose are swapping your pesonal details, spending habits, geolocation, etc for a cheap coffee or tea. I dont have anything to hide but would rather not be tracked by companies for a cheap return.

And it is nice coffee!! I absolutely love their lattes :-)
Or you could just buy a flask?

I thought it was only free with the waitrose card if you bought something ? That's what cashier told me at new waitrose 6 miles from me
Subway do a similar £2 deal for hot drink and bacon or sausage sub.

Dose any one know of a list of 'participating' branches, please?
I phoned their H.O., and they did not give a T

Where I live we do have a wetherspoon, but to many times there are lame excused as to why they do not take part in ofers.
Are they going to opt out of living wage to?

Not if you want to drink it in the cafe, but: "The change will not affect customers wanting to take away a free hot drink from the cafes, or from the company’s supermarkets"

That's true, I have been to waitrose supermarket branch and they scanned my loyalty card and gave me a cup no questions from the cashier apart from what drink I was having as they do tea as well.

Collect your stickers on the side of the cups (don't forget the warning to remove once empty!) and get 7th cup 'free' making the cost of each c. £1.10 - still not as cheap as this offer but getting closer!!
Lavazza is far better than the muck from mcdonalds for sure
COLD - if you are going to take it away anyway then just wait till you get home or to where-ever you are going and make a cup of coffee there instead. It will cost abut 5p.

And a perfectly reasonable stance for them to take in my humble opinion. If you want to to just grab coffee then fill your boots, and fair play to them for letting people do so, but taking up space at one of their tables and preventing paying customers from sitting down is simply wrong to me.

As others have said, its free for a take away, or just 25p (the price for a banana) if you sit in the cafe and read the paper.

Just a slight aside, if you go via the checkout and have the coffee on your spend it shows as £2 or so, then add on your paper say another £1 or so, which means you only actually need to spend another £2 to get the paper and coffee free on a £5 spend (weekdays)...hope that makes sense
Nothing worse than queuing up behind a load of women ordering coffees. This will make it take even longer to get my morning pint.

My understanding is that this is a national offer. The only exclusions I can imagine would be the airport's.
Just a heads up. You can also get a filter coffee for 99p in Pret. It's decent, strong coffee as well.

Mind the government takes 20% VAT of that straight away.
And my nearest Waitrose is ~90 miles away :-(

A free tea or coffee when you shop with us:
Nothing says ‘welcome’ more than a lovely cup of tea or coffee. That’s why we like to offer you a free hot drink when you come shopping at Waitrose. It’s just one of the ways we like to say thank you for your custom.

That’s why we've come up with this short guide to help all our myWaitrose customers make the most of the scheme and to remind you about scanning your myWaitrose card.

We hope that through observing this free tea and coffee etiquette we can continue to offer a complimentary hot drink each time you shop with us.

Free tea and coffee etiquette

Become a myWaitrose member and shop with us a little (or a lot)
Enjoy a free tea or coffee when you pop in for your groceries
Swipe your myWaitrose card at the till

Free tea or coffee

In our Cafés, Bakeries and Deli Counters

We are asking myWaitrose members who wish to enjoy their free tea or coffee in either a café, bakery or deli counter with eat in seating to also purchase something when enjoying their drink. This enables us to continue to offer our customers the enjoyable service they expect.

If you're not visiting the café, bakery or deli counter you can still pick up a free tea or coffee from the self-service machine when you are shopping with us. Remember to present your myWaitrose card.
It's always free in the supermarkets I go in you just ask for a cup and show card Or in cafe just buy a 25p banana and the drinks free!!
That Lavazzo stuff is pretty good
Do a quick lap of most sofa retailers and they tend to offer you a cup tea or coffee for free! But you might pay for it if you get stuck with a pushy salesperson, which may end up costing you over a £1000 over 4 years interest free!
