Here you can take official practice theory tests from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), free of charge.
Experienced driver? just see what You really know Vs what You think you know.
There are four separate tests -
Car
MotorBikes
Large vehicles
Bus / Coach Drivers

Each test can take upto 57 mins to complete
You can take the mock theory test in

  • ‘practice view’ - designed to work on most PCs, mobiles and tablets
  • ‘test view’ - this looks similar to the screens at the theory test centre.

My score after 31 years -

44/50 passed.
The medical question was odd.
What's the minimum time that a burn needs to be cooled for? 5/10/15/20 mins.
What's that got to do with driving???
49/50 Apparently if someone is reversing out of their drive, you're meant to briefly sound horn to let them know you're coming. I did not know that. I'm sure my neighbours will love me checking them.
Hazard perception test UK: are there other cars on the road?
YES - watch out because they probably got their licence out of a corn flake packet.

Basic first aid in case of an accident (whether you are actually involved or not).

dont think you ever witnessed an accident where a vehicle was on fire? anyhow this is a basic first aid question
29/50

I've never drove a car or read any lesson books

Is that good?

46/50, driving 18 years. Medical one about minimum cool time on a burn caught me out. Also the roundabout sign, I ticked mini roundabout. How silly of me
I wish I could buy a car but I’m living in London. So using tubes is more economically.
I passed with 46/50
Need 9 more to pass lol

Sound your horn, call them a dosy git and prepare to stop
44/50 Pass ( passed in '95) also got the reversing out of drive one wrong .. ??
44/50 for me.

Not really, as it’s multiple choice law of averages says you’d get about a quarter right anyway. Assuming you’ve been in a car a few times and on the bus a bunch then you should know some of them.

It’s not bad either. What is good is you tried it and you probably know more now than you did before so well done. You probably got an average score for a beginner.

But too be fair some of these don't make sense

Why do you need to know the time for a burn to heal
One question what I got confused on
"Stop car and wait for the pedestrian to cross"
Or
(I chose this one) "Stop before you reach zigzag line and wait for pedestrian to cross

I think it's a trick question lol

It's if you are driving through a paper mill and your car suddenly explodes.
Hate how badly they word these questions & answers to catch you out. Even to the point where they slightly contradict other answers

Well done, that's better than me at 48/50 - I got the burns question wrong (I said 20 mins) and I chose to speed up to pass high-sided vehicle in wind rather than anticipate a gust.

As for horn yes defiantly sound horn as it's correct use is to let other road users know you're there.

Sounding the horn to alert other road users of your presence is definitely the correct use for it.
Unfortunately not everyone sees it that way. From the videos I've seen on youtube, it leads to road rage as some dont appreciate being called out for their actions.

Rule of thumb is what your granny would think is safest option is the right one. Any answer that involves speeding up is probably gonna make your gran say “oh that doesn’t sound safe” so is wrong.

I’m surprised the burn one wasn’t the max time there!

Seems the answer is ten minutes.

Well it’s not for calling people out it is for alerting other cars to your presence. So they can get affronted if you’re just pressing it at them to have a go. That is road rage, even if you think rage is a strong word for it.

What you say is not incorrect, it’s just that you didn’t seem to realise that beeping at folk in that manner is road rage so it’s more accurate to say that road rage begets more road rage than that ‘calling people out’ leads to it.

Exactly. You can be a great driver and not great at tending to wounds. Besides, a nurse is ALWAYS nearby in any kind of accident.

Didn’t realise I was throwing them out the pram. I guess you thought I was having a go at you, apologies for that.

So many bad drivers out there. Someone thought it was a good idea to stare out driver side window with both hands off the wheel gesticulating at me for going slow the other day... at 3:30pm outside a school. I’m sure they got to their destination in good time driving at 40 so I guess I’m happy for them.

I really hate road rage.

Awesome post!

Got my Bike Theory booked in so this will come in Handy

Cheers
Most of the questions asked in the theory test are irreverent with respect to judging driving knowledge.

Eg What driving test and knowledge has to do with name of the type of crossing etc
43/50, I'll take it considering how bad of a driver I am
Brilliant, been thinking of going for motorbike test. Might give me the push I need. Thanks!
44/50 - yay me. Seems like a lot of us failed on the same questions
Heat added, cheers mate
Cheers. 47 after 17 years. It's mostly common sense.
50/50 though I answered the questions to get them right, not the way I drive (if that makes sense lol)
