At this price I'm tempted to get the set and a couple of spares...
I really do not understand why anyone would buy this set as an investment. The link with GoT was thin to non existant in the first instance. The packaging, especially the "black watch" oban is shocking. Looks like a black glass bottle? Nope thats a black plastic wrapper. The whisky the bottles contain have not been well reviewed and clearly the only thing limited about this edition is how many they can sell. I love a whisky, but it has got totally out of hand. There is massive over production currently, prices are so high based on the much lower production in the 1990s followed by massive demand in the 2000s. In 5 years time, maybe less, i would not be surprised if the GoT whisky was seen as the point when the bubble was about to burst.

I've bought the Oban Bay Reserve and the Lagavulin 9 during this sale, both of which have been pretty well reviewed. The branding was always going to be tacky, but the whisky inside is no different. The Bay Reserve is still around £60 in a normal bottle, and the Lagavulin is according to most reviews worth the money. Getting both bottles for £36 each is a bargain.

I do agree that they were never investment bottles, and anyone who bought them thinking they were or are very misinformed.

For me it's a good opportunity to try new scotch brands and have a themed collection at home and it's as simple as that really....its just a marketing manoeuvre to promote scotch so obviously if you want to talk about that 10/10 bottle this is not for you
I respect the opinions above, but dont agree with them. I think if you are looking to try different scotch then there is a wider net to cast that this set from Diageo. But i guess if you do want the set then all 9 bottles (excluding the johnny walkers, and why would you want them) can be had from amazon uk for a total of £351 (approx 39/bottle). Amazons price for the talisker "greyjoy" is about a fiver more than here so they may price match? The Lagavulin "lannister" isnt sold by amazon but is 54quid from master of malt through amazon.

With it appearing this is now being reduced to clear might be worth seeing what the cheapest possible combo for the series is....

Amazon has the Lagavulin for £35.99, preordered for March 7th:

Does anyone know if Talisker "Select Reserve" available without the GOT branding or which Talisker is this one similar too?

Good shout, brings the 9 bottle collection to 340quid...

If you mix and match from here and amazon, it comes to just shy of £300, which seems like a pretty decent price. I might skip one or two that I've had before, but the prices yesterday and today seem better than a good deal on the non-novelty-packed equivalents.
So ....
Singleton @ loch fyne £22.80
Royal lochnagar @ loch fyne £22.80
Dalwhinnie @ loch fyne £28.80
Cardhu @ loch fyne £28.80
Oban @ amazon uk £35.99
Mortlach @ amazon uk £66.99
Talisker @ loch fyne £28.80
Lagavulin @ amazon uk £35.99
Clynelish @ loch fyne £28.80

Amazon order £139
Loch fyne order £161

So yeah 300quid as prices rounded up
£33/bottle.
I grudingly admit thats not bad.

Could be the Skye or the Storm. Doubt it is the 57° North.

Could be a new mix of various casks of unknown age from the distillery.

None of the bottles are exactly the same as other releases, the GoT series at the minimum their colour changed to be uniform.

Agree. This is the same abv as these two. What’s more you can get the Skye for a little lower than this price so maybe not so good a deal as it seems for those not collecting.

that's exactly what I was thinking. I like Talisker 10 but I've been put off the Storm and Skye by reviews I've seen.

Obviously a very subjective topic but I would say they are harsh; not much subtle about them. Lots of smoke and a strong flavour. I wouldn’t personally have them as a regular but when in the right mood for a warming drink then I do enjoy then

Laphroaig 10 on sale might be a better option for those into their peat that aren't bothered about the GoT theme.
