Talkmobile Pay Monthly - Half price to Switch to Vodafone

First one, so please go easy...

I use Vodafone and Talkmobile sims in my handset for personal and work use, Vodafone has a marginally better signal in my area, although still not great.

I bought a Sure Signal booster and it really helps indoors, but couldn't add Talkmobile even though they use Vodafone.

My Talkmobile contract expires in Jan 2018, so I called Talkmobile to find out if they'd be offering Vodafone deals for expiring contracts.

They said I could upgrade 6 months before expiry and were offering -50% off Vodafone contracts.

I had 3000 mins/Unlimited texts/4gb of data for £10pm with TM, I got UL mins/UL texts/3gb of data for £9 with Vodafone and the option to renew at same rate after 12 months (RPI increases apply). I use my personal Vodafone sim for data, so losing a gig is no biggie as I only need the minutes for work.

Maybe I could've got more, I took what was offered because I value the minutes and wanted a Vodafone sim to add to my booster.

Contract Team
  • From your Talkmobile phone on: 5888 (calls are free)
  • From another phone on: 0333 304 8064 (charges may vary)

Hope this helps someone!

Thanks for the info, just out of contract with Talk mobile so will see what they are offering.

I *think* Plusnet offer 4GB data for £9 per month.

But as they don't use Vodafone network your comment makes no sense.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has managed to "upgrade" from Talkmobile to Vodafone more than 3 months before their current TM contract is due to expire, as I'm beating my head against a brick wall trying to allow me to switch to VF with 5 months remaining - even though for unexplained reasons I can no longer get a TM signal anywhere at home, and am forced to buy a Vodafone Sure Signal with a PAYG SIM in slot 2 - diverting "unreachable" calls to it at home.

My contract wasn't up until 13/01/18, when I called I was told I was eligible to upgrade from 12/07/17.I asked about deals, they offered.Vodafone sim arrived today.

Best thing about the Vodafone network is you can never go over your allowance as you can never get a signal.

So, that's strange. When I log in to my TM account, I see this :-
Can I upgrade now? No. When can I upgrade? 20 December 2017. Contract ends 20 March 2018
Which means I have to wait until in the final 3 months to upgrade, not 6, which is what they said on the phone too.

I'm on Talkmobile. Out of contract (from June), they regularly ring me, but don't offer any better then what I'm already on (2000mins, 1000txts, 2gb data) £10. I've stuck with it until now, but the EE 30gb dual-sim offer posted here earlier sounds so tempting...

Sounds like you have no signal, moving to Vodafone won’t help if you have no 2G or 3G signal as highly doubt they have 4G coverage only there. Obviously sounds like V removed a base station/transmitter - call Ofcom & lodge a complaint against TM/Vodafone.

You're right there, as technically since both TalkMobile and Vodafone use the same signal, I'd be no better off, but - and it's a big but - I can use the Vodafone Sure Signal at home to get a local 3G signal, and that won't work with TM numbers, they have to be on VF. Outside coverage isn't an issue, it's at home where we have no signal - on any network.

I have been with Talkmobile since moving from Vodafone earlier this year. Mobile signal at home was on a par with my previous years on Vodafone. But some months ago the signal dropped to almost zero. Talkmobile denied there was any mast problems, so I am going to have to do something similar and go back to Vodafone and use my sure signal booster. I do know that Vodafone and O2 share their transmitters, but it is weird that I get a much stronger O2 signal on an O2 PAYG sim that I have. I also bought a Lebara mobile PAYG sim, also uses Vodafone, and I get a stronger signal. It is like Talkmobile have somehow managed to reduce the signal. Seems strange and very unlikely, but the bottom line is, I get an O2 and Lebara signal, but no Talkmobile signal. The thought of dealing with Vodafone fills me with dread, I left them because they totally shafted me on my last renewal, pack of lies told that cost me a lot of money. Lie after lie, it was unreal.

A network can prioritise itself over MVNOs, or the other way.

Does certainly seem that way - Vodafone reducing TALKMOBILE signal /service quality for some reason.

I wonder why that is happening....

Is the 50% off just on Vodafone Sim Only contracts or phone contracts too?
