Voda bought TM from Carphonewarehouse years ago

Thanks, seaniboy. I didn't know that. Just looked at Wikipedia which states, "Vodafone bought Talkmobile from Carphone Warehouse in 2015. In May 2017 Talkmobile stopped selling new contracts and PAYG SIMS, and is currently in the process of migrating existing customers across to Vodafone.[citation needed] The PAYG network will close completely on 31st August 2017."

Voda bought TM from Carphonewarehouse years ago, this allowed CPW to then set up ID Mobile some time later after the sale.

Just to complete it I expect CPW next venture will be o2 led lol

Fresh - T-Mobile

TalkMobile - Vodafone

ID Mobile - Three

Another mvno bites the dust! If you have have a phone locked to voda its all you have is libra mobile and talk talk and thats it

... and it's about time they had 4G! I have a free sim (calls and data) from them and maybe they will offer 4G to me?

People need to understand that there are certain circumstances where they may still be charged for roaming even with the new rules. This applies if you use it too much abroad and also possibly if you have cheap data, it's a bit of an unknown at the moment.

I've used both and frankly while 4g is faster 3g is perfectly adequate for most things.

Voda ate idiots if they think having one brand they are going to keep all their customers then they need to think again! Think how many mvno EE have how much network they rent out and making money off! Surely to have someone like sky mobile or something would make them more money

It does seem mad, but i guess voda bought then to get a few more customers, it looks from the page that PAYG is finishing for talkmobile, i have been looking at delight, they seem fairly good, using EE, I was after a voda package but they all seem too costly.
I believe voda charge more for their network as they are "upgrading" the system, but to be fair they seem to be the only ones still putting up towers, and they even have a "report a poor signal area" program.
If someone can actually put out actual figures on coverage i would be very interested as this 99% is a load of rubbish, either that or I'm extremely unlucky, living in the cotswolds several areas have no signal at all.
if only someone like pebble or jump was cheaper, they could soon get a huge client base. but then 5p a minute 5p a text and 5p per Mb is probably cheaper than most PAYG networks

Patcho I wouldn't port my 200 gbp gold number into a data reward sim as you may not be able to leave no legal requirement and withdraw the international rate in the UK. That makes the usual 321 deal the best for me.

What's giffgaff's speed like these days? Big reason I left was due to poor data speed.

Well, that and the outages they were having at the time.

Avoid talkmobile.

Been without mobile data since taking up a contract with them and they just keep blaming Vodafone (which is probably fair) or work being done in my area (any part of the UK where the phone has travelled). They won't even refund until the problem is resolved which they don't have any timescale for.

I'm not even angry, just amazed at how poor they are at running a business and how quickly they pass the buck.

Very strange operation.

I used Talkmobile when they were part of Carphone Warehouse and their customer service was just about ok.
Most recent reviews slate Talkmobile for billing errors which go unresolved for months, which impact your credit file, so this is why I'm apprehensive about trying them.

Have been using talk mobile and unless you live in a big city I would avoid signal so poor for data even compared to three

Vodafone 3G tends to be much slower than EE/3.

They use low capacity 3G (900 MHz) and make limited use of DC-HSDPA on 3G (2100 MHz).
Vodafone are also re-farming chunks of their 3G (2100 MHz) from 3G to 4G.
Obviously, the latter is only good if they enable access to their 4G network.
