Unfortunately, despite the great price, this is not a great performer in the most important aspect - picture quality.

Just 2 stars in this review photozone.de/can…non

Also, be aware that there is a newer [more expensive] version of this lens with a piezo USM which focuses VERY much faster, is 24% shorter and 100 grams lighter.

You can see the two models in a comparison shot on this Amazon link amazon.co.uk/Tam…8-1

However... "All-in-all the lens may be a tad better than Canon's 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS"

I got this lens for £100 from Jessops - definitely worth that. Worth £263 - not sure... It depends on what you're gonna use it for - it's a very handy, single, travelling lens that's not going to break the bank.

Most of the optical problems can be easily/instantly corrected by applying the Tamron lens correction profile in Camera Raw. Not a problem if you shoot in RAW and post process anyway.

Picture quality is going to suffer in a super zoom lens - that's just the way it is...

image stabilisation is REALLY good and the zoom is pretty impressive :o) Here's the two extremes of the lens - no Photoshop jiggery pokery. Small one at 18mm big one at 270mm.

review uses nikon mount version.

I'm interested in one of these superzooms for taking on holiday.. can't decide which to go for.

Clearance - damaged box :o)

Great price for a good travel lens. Bought this from Hong Kong about 2 years ago for £350, I;ve used it mainly for going on holidays where I don't fancy changing my lens all the time. Not sure if I could justify paying almost twice for the piezo version :s.

Hot!

If your a Canon man, then their 55-250mm IS lens is worth a look - not quite the same reach, but not that far away either [used with a 'kit' 18-55mm lens]

Around £150 presently e.g. simplyelectronics.net/mai…Niw

I bought one at £135 a couple of months ago, though the price there has increased since ['white box' copy split from a bundle]

Not a bad review, considering the much cheaper price photozone.de/can…iew

cheers bud, I'll take a look... Yep I'm a Canon man.

My every day lens - I've had some cracking shots with this baby, and I have even used it in my studio shoots.

All 5 shots on my flickr front page are done with this lens.
