Yup but it was a work around anyway and as curve is a commercial card they probably had to pay a fair whack too. No problem for me as my council already accept credit cards so won’t have the fee imposed or you just use directly. I’m PAYE so my tax has no points available etc... I know this was a good point with curve but before it was available life went on.
Curve have just updated their T's and C's to add a 1.5% surcharge for payments (backed by credit card) to HMRC, Student Loans, NS&I, DVLA so far - more to come I presume. This renders my above tip no longer valid. It can still be used in other 'debit card only' situations though.
They have increased the interest rate from 0.5% to 1% on the savings account part of the app.
I'm looking to sign up - please can someone PM me a referral link and their details? Thanks!
Tandem emailed me earlier :- We have a known issue with some petrol pumps that is affecting a number of other banks too. With the exception of Asda you can always pay at the kiosk inside with our credit card. We apologise for this, an explanation is below. Over a year ago now, MasterCard issued a directive stating that they wanted all merchants to update the software on their Pay-at-Pump machines, so that they pre-authorise an arbitrary amount of £100.00 and then debited the customer the cost of the fuel they go on to fill up with; rather than the previous method which at times left customers in overdrafts or over-limit. Tandem are adhering to what MasterCard have mandated, and have seen a number of the fuel companies updating their software to allow our card through.
