Price without code is £52.72. Need to use code GBTX92O to get it for £42.78. Code can only be applied when logged in. Tested the code and it is working but they generally limit it.

Descent box for the money. Amlogic S912 with 3GB DDR4 ram with 32GB eMMC, Running Android 7.1. Has 2.4G and 5G wifi with 1000M LAN port and 4.1 bluetooth.

It is basically a Vorke Z6, which was posted on HUKD a couple of months ago at £57.

It gets great reviews and a few developers on Freaktab have their hands on them so support looks good. Ships from China.

Here is the spec taken from Gearbest site:

No, it is not running google tv stock rom. It is just my terminology as you connect it to your tv. Sorry for any confusion. Title amended.

Looks good to me.
These spec boxes seem to be the best before you jump the big (and expensive) gap to Nvidia Shield

Another daft question... Is this basically an android pc to connect to the TV for screen?

Think of it as a powerful tablet without the screen. You can download apps from the playstore just as you would on an android phone or tablet (or side load them). Would recommend buying a air mouse/wand to get the most out of it. You can connect bluetooth remotes such as a xbox one controller for gaming.

Tanix has no house he kneels before banner

Excuse my ignorance but would you be able to download the likes of mobdro/showbox to the box and watch via your tv?

yes, that’s correct

the tanix boxes are good for flashing libreelec as well if you just want kodi. i’ve got one and flashed it ages ago without a problem

Can this play/read content of a 4TB (GPT NTFS) 2.5 portable hard drive?

Well i've got my box linked into my 'network' - in other words, it's connected to my NAS drive and I can access all of my local content just fine.

the mecool m8s pro L is better, has widevine L1 and hdcp, and the android TV playstore.

I’m
Using a fire stick with no limit loaded , would I see a better performance buying one of these

If going down the Libreelec route then save money and get an S905x

Different perhaps. I've had 5 mecool boxes in the last 2 months and they are good value but firmware and build quality let them down. Would have been nice to have L1 and HDCP support but not a deal breaker for me. Personally I prefer the full playstore to the android TV version.

Does anyone know if this has Widevine L1 DRM as well as HDCP certification? Only a few cheap Chinese boxes have this (e.g. Mecool M8S Pro and Pro L). Otherwise you're watching Netflix in all its glory at 480p, no matter how many cores or MB RAM it has.

Update: Just saw this comprehensive review: freaktab.com/for…lan

At least at the time tested, this did not have Widevine L1 (only L3) or HDCP certification. You'll get Netflix in 480p Shame as the specs are smoking for the price.

If your using it for Netflix then go purchase an expensive box. You want everything for no money. Always see you complaining about cheap android boxes that can't run Netflix well purchase a more expensive one. These are priced not for Netflix as 99 are purchased for spmc or kodi ability

just a question, but don't you have to pay VAT on top?

Anyone know a solution for the youtube app not going properly full screen. Still shows the top taskbar which is a bit annoying. All these type of boxes I have tried have that issue. Not a dealbreaker though by any means. I've never found a fix

I don't know exactly. Depending on the Android version and if it's rooted and with a custom recovery. You could use Xposed Framework, GravityBox, to force expanded desktop.

The only thing to watch out for is import duties/custom charges. Personally I've never been charged these before with gearbest but I never pay for courier/expedited delivery as these tend to attract these charges.

It is £12 cheaper than this box, at £29.99 on Gearbest, hence no - you don't have to splash out on an expensive box if you want to avoid Netflix SD.

M8S Pro+ sent out in the past couple of months have faulty eMMC, which dies when doing firmware updates - incredibly silly to recommend that people buy one when everywhere is recommending against them.

SEC 5.1 eMMC Flash Issue - Clarification

This issue is very specific :
It is
1. Box freezes - Sometimes with Audio "Buzz", screen freezes randomly in any app.
2. Box can freeze when only the Launcher is active from start, just by moving about the launcher (L, R, UP, DOWN)
3. Box can crash and will not re-boot with Remote - Requires a Power Cycle (OFF-ON)
3. Box has SEC 5.1 chip KLMAG1JENB - B041 (Probably not any other eMMC - No Kingston or Samsung 5.0 reported with this specific issue to my knowledge)
4. Update using OEM Update App and OEM provided .zip Firmware causes catastrophic boot failure to a Screen Freeze/+Buzz within mere seconds of all Power On actions post update.

freaktab.com/for…g-n
WARNING: There's a bad batch(speculation) of M8S Pro+ boxes which are experiencing regular freezing and crashes. We've narrowed the source of the problem down to a Samsung eMMC 5.1 chipset (KLMAG1JENB - B041), batches SEC 701 to 713, and these usually shipped from the factory with version 20170829.121614.V0321 of the OEM firmware. If you have one of these, it's highly recommended that you not flash any ROM (custom or OEM), as the prolonged block writes seem to result in serious data corruption.

Thanks, I wasn't aware. I'll delete my original comment. Mine was bought as soon as it was released and I was able to run Android TV flawlessly, probably was from a good batch.

the new m8s pro plus are fine, it was a dodgy batch of Samsung chips

well, it is better. I could go into details, but I get the impression you wouldn't understand. tanix is hardly well known as a quality brand they are just rebadgers. atleast mecool/videostrong forked out some money for DRM certificates and their own firmware.
