currently reduced in sale. I have a pair of M3's which were the line before this and they sound sweet.

Now discontined, so may be a stock clearance.

Following on from the award-winning F1 speakers, the F3's offer a much larger, floorstanding cabinet for grander scale and enhanced dynamics. Big Tannoy speakers have always been renowned for effortless dynamic scale and a broad spread of sound and that's exactly what you'll get from the F3s. The front-mounted bass reflex design also helps make these Tannoy speakers efficient and easy to drive.

Although powerful and punchy sounding, the Mercury F3's are also refined. A soft dome tweeter gives a smooth treble response without missing out on the detail.

As you'd expect from this leading hi-fi brand, the F3's are solidly built. A thick, MDF front panel and solidly constructed cabinet ensure the F3s remain rattle free, even at high levels. The cabinet rigidity also plays its part in helping these big speakers sound so taut and crisp.

Finished in an Apple Wood vinyl wrap, the F3s disguise their bulk well and fit in with a wide range of domestic settings. For an ideal blend of punch and refinement, the Tannoy F3 Mercurys are hard to beat at this price.

Great offer, slightly cheaper are some Q Acoustics 1030i at £99

Both pretty good offers if you ask me.

Argh I've been looking for these this cheap again since two christmases ago - and now I'm going on holiday tomorrow

Damn also dark oak only

Original Poster

yer its a shame they are only in dark oak.
another thing to point out is that the m3's are still worth about£100 a pop in good condition even after years of use, so they do tend to retain value, and still sound great.

well im not sure about better, i wouldn't like to say, but they have been around for donkeys years, and are some of the best mass market speaker/audio manufacturers out there.

These are part of a 5 or 7.1 set you can get, with monitor/centre speakers if you want more:

possibly not the cheapest place for the others, but if you want to build a surround sound rig, you can build up to this if you have the space.

As Loughboro guy would say... "Not a known brand - I'm voting cold "

only joking - great price and might pick myself a set of these up - hot from me...

Cold

Refined is definitely the word. Full range sound with wonderfully subtle details no matter how complex the music. Gratifying absence of that fake boominess that may impress for a while but soon fatigues and irritates. Precise and stable sound stage. Unexpected bonus: they even make the listening room sound somehow bigger. If like me you are a classical or acoustic music fan, and you have a decent amp (mine is an ageing but great Creek 4040S2) then you will wonder why these lucid speakers aren't twice the price!
