Tannoy are to speakers what Hoover are to vacuum cleaners, so it's no surprise to find the Tannoy Mercury F3 speakers perform so well.

Following on from the award-winning F1 speakers, the F3's offer a much larger, floorstanding cabinet for grander scale and enhanced dynamics. Big Tannoy speakers have always been renowned for effortless dynamic scale and a broad spread of sound and that's exactly what you'll get from the F3s. The front-mounted bass reflex design also helps make these Tannoy speakers efficient and easy to drive.

Although powerful and punchy sounding, the Mercury F3's are also refined. A soft dome tweeter gives a smooth treble response without missing out on the detail.

As you'd expect from this leading hi-fi brand, the F3's are solidly built. A thick, MDF front panel and solidly constructed cabinet ensure the F3s remain rattle free, even at high levels. The cabinet rigidity also plays its part in helping these big speakers sound so taut and crisp.

Finished in an Apple Wood vinyl wrap, the F3s disguise their bulk well and fit in with a wide range of domestic settings. For an ideal blend of punch and refinement, the Tannoy F3 Mercurys are hard to beat at this price.

Nope, Tannoy are to public address systems what Hoover are to vacuum cleaners, though it doesn't read so well

Decent speakers, worth the cash, and also available for same price from Richers.

Doubt it. These are passive speakers that needs to be driven by an amplifier.

Guys, Can I use these as both the front and back speakers in a surround system? Many thanks

These aren't self-driven, they need a dedicated amplifier/receiver.

Even if you have a Jack and a Jill that still ‘ain’t gonna work.

On that note, are there are good powered speakers in this price range? Bookshelfs or floor standers?

haha did some just ask if these can be run straight from PC via 3.5 jack. I want to see this. How powerful is your PC?

You need an amp or just get active speakers wiith built in amp

If you want to use these speakers with PC, just get one of these cheap tripath amps from ebay as well (you can get one for as low as 15 quid). It will have enough power and you will be very surprised with sound quality.

Thanks WalterSmith.

Does any one know if there is a major difference between these Tannoy Mercury setup and the Tannoy SFX5.1 setup? Thanks

The SFX5.1's are a set of 5 satellite speakers plus a sub. The listed is a set of front speakers. Which for £99, I would certainly get bookshelves, ie, Wharfedale Diamond 9.1's
