Has anyone played this? Looks like the sort of game I'd like but reviews are not amazing. Still pretty well rated but think it will be a little on the pasted on side for me

Not played it but reviews on the facebook group I'm in suggest it's very marmite.

That's what I've heard as well. The main draw for me with Stonemaier is the theme is always spot on and draws you in, this one appears not to be like that and thematically doesn't make sense
Not a fan. It’s really unbalanced. So much so that there’s been an official balancing out of the rules update released.

One of my mates started on 60 points and another on 75.

there are much better games out there

That's a shame as scythe, wingspan and viticulture are 3 of my favourites.
I have a feeling this might go the way charterstone did then eventually
Could any of you guys recommend a decent game to start off with kids age 10-15

If they have no modern board gaming experience then something like ticket to ride is a good starting point. Depending on the ability of the kids then maybe smallworld or clank! would be suitable.
If you want a cooperative one then forbidden Island or pandemic would be OK but can suffer from someone taking charge (quarterbacking) and ordering everyone around (usually me).
If you want something fun and quick then sushi go party is great fun.
No doubt others will have different recommendations

Tha family ranking list on BGG is also a good place to start. See what type of mechanics appeal and maybe visit a boardgame cafe with them if there's one near you and try a few out?

Carcassonne works well, as does Port Royal. Agree about Ticket To Ride.

Power Grid works well with my 14 yo, maybe fiddly for a 10 yo though

Although I haven’t commented before, thanks for all the finds Jay, really useful.

Just to add some options. Splendor is a good entrance to board games, definitely would recommend Caracassone, ticket to ride and small world. Maybe settlers of catan? Another classic which was the first board game I played in my teens.
I work in a school and have introduced a board game club King of Tokyo is always popular and has a great theme of cartoony monsters to engage them. Coup is loved

star realms is another one 10 year to 16 years old love. My kids enjoy bears vs babies, fireball island and unstable unicorn.

we have all three of those in our gaming group and they are all loved.

Two Of my mates thought tapestry was good (one of them the owner of the game), two of us didn’t. It’s got a lot of choices and routes to victory but I lost by two points to a player who had a 45 point head start. It just felt wrong.

if you want a great euro then vindication is fantastic. Every time it gets to the table it’s talked about afterwards as everyone really enjoyed it

You are welcome. Glad I can help I think board gaming is a great way to socialise and spend time with the family so the more people doing it the better in my opinion
