Seems like a nice telescope for the price, comes with 12 month warranty.

heat added from me and r.i.p to patrick moore who died today....

I wouldn't buy Tasco rubbish, even though they rebranded some good models in the 70s.
The quality of many of these scopes sold by Jessops/ToysRUs is fairly poor optically and stability of mount.

firstlightoptics.com/her…tml would be much better for the same price.

thanks for the alternative, any others welcome, see if we can get the best for around the £50 mark, i'm no expert myself.

congrats on your first post mr coot, hope you find the site as useful as i have over the years.

I've lurked for a more than quite a while, so about time I put back in

Sorry but this is probably garbage. Tasco are notorious for rubbish beginner scopes. I'm not sure if they should dare to call it an astronomical scope when it doesn't even have an equatorial mount.

Lidl used to have good Bresser astronomical scopes for around £50 at Xmas time, did they last year? I have one that I bought a few years back and occasionally brave the cold to look at the skies. With some better eyepieces it gives quite good views on brighter objects.

RIP Patrick Moore.

That one looks pretty snazzy, i hope they keep the Sky at Night going but won't be quite the same.

Will this be useful to see 10m across the road from my house in to a bedroom window plz.oO

If you're buying this for a kid you're just going to put them off. I'd be inclined to buy a set of binoculars for this budget- you can't get a decent telescope for the price.

Huh, Tesco sells them cheaper :P

Any telescope that puts the magnification first should be discarded, there is no hope in hell of this being useful at 800x magnifications.

Buy a pair of 7 x 50 binoculars instead.

Another option for those that would prefer a non-tasco option is the Aldi one aldi.co.uk/uk/…htm - currently running at 39.99.

Comments over on stargazerslounge.com/top…pe/ seem to give it an okay rating, and in some cases better than the heritage one

hope they dont get richard hammond on sky at night now

he will always be the gamesmaster! r.i.p

he's not the biggest star...

spongebob

he's not the biggest star...

But he is quite dim and distant.......

RIP Patrick Moore - but I'm pretty sure he'd disapprove of people being extolled to buy a Tasco telescope to mark his passing. They are awful, your child will get frustrated with the fact that they can't get a stable image and the darkness of the image due to the small aperture, put it back in the box and that spark won't be ignited.

Agree with the second post - any reflector will be a better bet then this, even a cheap one at £50.

A pair of binoculars is the best move up for any budding astronomer. I own a telescope and 2 pairs of binoculars but I use the latter far more than the scope itself.

I plead to anyone, don't buy this. Buy a decent pair of binoculars instead.
