Tasker, powerful Android automation app on sale, £1.99

Tasker is an extremely powerful app to automate all sorts of tasks on Android devices; I use it to automatically control the volume control at various times of the day, pop up keyboard change requests when I enter keyboard-intensive apps, automatically enable/disable 3G and WiFi at certain times of day, sync NewsRob at specific times of day if connected to WiFi, enable sync settings if connected to a charger and so on. But these are really just scratching the surface of what Tasker can do!

Normal price is £6.49.

I don't use location-based contexts, but start with reading tasker.dinglisch.net/use…tml.

Essentially, you'd have a context that checks for mobile networks near your home, then refine that with GPS and/or WiFi near.

Alternatively, if you're using profiles that others have created (e.g. from tasker.wikidot.com/pro…dex), then put them on your sdcard (/mnt/sdcard/Tasker/projects), then disable beginner mode (menu button->Preferences->UI tab->Beginner mode unchecked), then tap the home icon in the bottom left, then Import.

Great

Thanks been considering this for a while

seems rather complicated

It is a bit intimidating to start with, but stick with it, and you'll see just how powerful it is.

Yes, very complicated to use but can be worth it. If you don't want to spend lots of time tweaking, then Llama does about 90% of the same stuff (and is free).

I can't recommend this app highly enough, it gives almost total automation on your Android phone. Some examples I use it for: a speaking alarm pulling in live weather updates, turning WiFi on and off depending on my location, automatically sending texts on my way home from work, taking a photo of anyone who enters the phone PIN incorrectly and automatically uploading to Dropbox. Pretty much anything you can't do naively is possible through plug ins. Alot is possible without root, although ICS and JB have imposed some further restrictions

If you only buy one Android app this should definitely be it. Google should build this directly into Android itself

i paid full price for this about 6 months ago and is the best app i have bought

I agree with the other people here. this is one of the best apps for Android. Yes, it is complicated but that is only because it allows you to configure so much.

For example, I have set up a profile that mutes my phone only if it is between 11:30pm and 7am if the phone is plugged in to charge. That's a fairly simple one and it can do so much more.

i've been using timeriffic which has been awesome over the years - couldn't live without it - but this seems like it can do loads more so i've given it a go - cheers op

I quite like this but found it more useful with older phones. Now all decent apps tend to have the options you need and system functions like WIFI, etc I just leave on all the time anyway.

Massive saving on one of the best Android apps.

Hot!

Just bought as well, I've been meaning to get Tasker for a few weeks & was expecting to pay £3.99 but rather pleased it's cheaper today
So now I can have a play and impress no one at all with my mad skillz.

Strongly recommend NFC tags, especially for those finding it very complicated.

Does your phone have to be rooted to use this?

Was looking at this yesterday at £3.99 and so glad I waited, heated!!

only for certain features

Thanks, saw the 4.0 update but not the sale, so bought.

Anyone on here got a rooted andriod ?

The majority of people shouldn't buy this.

It is great and I love it. But it isn't that easy to use, and unless you're quite comfortable with technology and understand how Android works it isn't something to be messed with. I just think it will be a waste of £2 for most people unless you're into tweaking Android to get the most out of it.

So if you aren't sure if you should buy this - you probably shouldn't.

Fantastic, worth learning to use..

Only if all you want is location aware profiles. That's only a small part of what Tasker can do. But I agree Llama is great at what it does, and have recommended it to my friends who just want the location awareness.

I'm only scratching the surface myself, but more often than not, when I think "I wish my phone could do this" - there's some way to do it in Tasker!

Oh man, pure win.

I'd end up with so many photos of myself

The photo thing when you put the code in incorrectly is standard on lookout security which again is free.

Yeah apart from them being two completely different apps you have a very good point there.

hi guys,

I want my phone to go into aeroplane mode from midnight to 7am. will tis app do the job? if so, how? if not, which app will do so?

s3 running 4.2.2

Just for starters mine has a Tasker configuration that mutes the phone to vibrate only during meetings only if I'm in London and switches on Wifi automatically when I get home. Try doing that on an iPhone. You don't really need to learn that much, as people have already written decent scripts which you just download and import.

Yes, it can do that.

Easily the best app on the android store. It turns the phone on silent when I'm in a lecture and turns the volume back up when I'm at home. It opens up the music player when I plug headsets in and reads out any texts I receive. If I lose my phone around the house it plays a loud sound if I text it a particular phrase even if its on silent. Most useful of all though it can act as one of the most powerful anti theft apps out there. I paid £4 for it and I'm more than happy with my purchase, at this price its a steal.

Definitely added heat for this. I'm going to have a look at the links cowbutt added but can anyone give me anymore hints or links on how to get the most out of it? Cheers

Balked at full price a number of times and tried Lama and all the others, but at this price can't help but have a go at it

Random question!!

Im getting the Galaxy Note 2 next week and when i go to buy this app now its asking to send to my old Nexus 7...if i agree can i retrieve it for free when i activate my Note 2??
Or is it linked to the device i send to only?
Thanks

Yeah apps are linked to your account not your device.

The second link he posted is probably the best resource to get you started. When you get the hang of making different profiles then the rest is just using your imagination and seeing what you can make. If you want to get the most out of it though you'll have to root your phone and find out how to use scripts. These forums are generally good if you want to do something but don't know how:

When you buy stuff on Android it is linked to your account *NOT* the device, I'm still using apps on my current phone I bought several phones ago.

And on a side note, this app would still be a steal at several times the normal price, never mind the current reduction!
