I've long enjoyed the convenience of Vesta Paella and other Vesta meals when catering for one - you can whip up a tasty paella in 20 minutes by adding a knob of butter and simmering the packet contents in water. Grabbed a load today in Poundland for £1 each - best before end September 2010. Good, easy, tasty grub for a quid! (According to mysupermarket.co.uk these are £1.58 in Asda - almost 40% off the Asda price).

Welcome back to the seventies! An unpopular labour government, mass layoffs, soaring public debt, huge tax rises to come, and Vesta Paella - it's deja vu all over again!

can't remember most of these, only young, but can remember the free school milk in cute mini milk bottles. it was so creamy, not like our watery milk today.

I like the crispy noodles in the chow mein one! well I think I do....haven't had one of these for years!

Oh Man! That is So Funny!
Sadly it is also true................

4O Years ago,I thought these were the height of sophistication -
If I had access to a Poundland,I would buy one for the memory.
Heat and rep:thumbsup:

Free school milk - ah yes, remember it well, before Margaret Thatcher 'milk snatcher' removed that priviledge!

Chicken Supreme I think it was, think they stopped making it a long time ago

These are nice though, heat added

I like these but almost had a heart attack when I read the saturated fat content. I think a block of lard would be a healthy alternative to the beef curry

Still nice tho!

aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhh.... Brain Freeze. .... Quality memories

My mum used to give me these when I was a kid in the 80's. Apparently they really were the first kind "ready meals" back in the 70's (not that I was around back then).

Still get them ocaasionally these days and they're still much nicer then the modern microwave meals and the portions are well more generous!

Never seen the chicken curry one but you can deffo get beef curry and just like the others it's spot on!

Yikes! I've just had a flashback to 1969 when I was 15! My parents were away so I invited half a dozen friends round for a "dinner party" (my first).

I made brandy snaps stuffed with strawberries and cream for afters, and prawn cocktail (just prawns, salad cream and tomato ketchup) for a starter and, for the main course, Vesta Paella! All washed down with a Lambrusco. Yummy! At that time I hated having to wear short trousers. I yearned to be allowed to have long hair and to wear hipster jeans. Funnily enough, my hair is now half way down my back and most of my long trousers are hipsters. But I prefer to wear shorts whenever I can. As for the Paella, I've since tasted the real thing in Spain, so I don't know if I could tolerate Vesta's, but I'm tempted to try.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose!

The last time i had a vesta of anykind i lived in a terraced house with an outside toilet, no running hot water & the central heating was when you had a wee & a dump in the pot under the bed, i thankfully don't live like that anymore & thankfully i don't have to eat vesta any more.

if you got it for a pound in poundland, wheres the bargain?:whistling:

I've only just got rid of my outside toilet & you're on about ananimated avitars, rome wasn't built in a day

Try this amazing version of Vesta paella . Chop and fry good portion of chorizo and sweet red pepper. Remove from pan, leaving the chorizo oils in the pan and now add the packet of rice stirring it into the oil. Cook your paella as usual. When dish is cooked return the chorizo and peppers to the pan, stir in and cook for a minute. This thickens the dish and makes it really tasty. Im a real lover of good food and i adore my vesta paella like this. In fact Im eating it now!
