Farmfoods are selling Tate & Lyle Sugar 1KG packets for 39p. Cheapest I've seen. This was in the Sunbury store but it looks like its a national deal as there was a poster in the window.

Only reason sugar is so cheap at the moment is that there is a glut of sugar on the world markets.
It will not be too long before production is decreased by farmers going into other food stuffs. So enjoy the cheap price whilst you can before it shoots up in price as the glut disappears.

Thought the Iceland price was 49p, was last week when I got my jam making sugar from FarmFoods, but 1p (assuming Iceland was 40p) still equates to 2.5% which is way better than most people's pay rises over the last few years.

This stuff is fine for cake making and baking. When will people in this country wake up and realise that this **** is 'refined' sugar? Refined sugar has no nutritional value whatsoever, is extremely processed, and can have harmful chemicals added. UNrefined is natural sugar, from raw cane. It retains much of sugar’s natural nutrients, like calcium, iron, magnesium. It's not even that expensive. Lidl sell a kilo of raw cane sugar and demerara at £1.39.
Cutting out **** sugar is impossible. Just be sensible and don't overdose. And if you're one of those that go for 'sugar free', god help you. You'd be better overdosing on sugar, as you'll be filling your body with artificial sweetener crap, even worse! They'll tell you it does no harm. Good luck in 20 years time.
Go and buy yourself some Muscovado or any raw cane sugar, it really is not expensive, dip your finger in and taste. Then do the same with refined white sugar.
You'll soon realise which is the crap!

Refined sugar is crap and has harmful chemicals added yet you advise to use it in cakes and food? Refined sugar is quite a simple process really. What chemicals are added to sucrose, the chemical name of sugar, exactly? Unrefined sugar has trace mineral content, there's much better and healthier ways to get them than a load of brown sugar. Sugar has nutritional value - calories.

At least we agree on something, too much is bad as with anything and too many calories, regardless of source, will cause weight gain.

Sweeteners are not dangerous despite what the Internet's lies and misinformation tells you. They are a perfectly viable and safe alternative to sugar. Exactly why sucralose is dangerous crap for your body?

Just because something involves "chemicals" or isn't "natural" doesn't automatically mean it's bad.
