I have the 43 inch version of this. Great picture quality but the inbuilt smart apps are garbage and really slow. Need to pair with a roku or an xbox or similar to really use it. Also hdmi 2.0 is turned off by default so xbox one x says its not proper 4k hdr 10. Took me ages to find the menu option to turn on hdmi 2 but as soon as i did the xbox loved it and the picture is fantastic.

Does it have a game mode setting? Can't find a single review which isn't great.
Surely this is insanely cheap for a 55” with a 5 year warranty...

If using sky q and a PS3, will it be fine?

I’m not really a proper new school gamer, nor a 4K fanatic.

I’ve got a 40” teknica (if that’s how you spell it) HD tv from Tesco which I’ve had for about 8 years.

Will this be a noticeable upgrade, aside from size?

Any glaring issues to look out for with a cheap set like this?

Starting with picture quality, while not knowing what both your TV is like and what this one is like, going from Full HD to 4K means that the maximum picture quality will be 4 times better than your TV. If there are any issues, the 5 year warranty should help with that, and Costco are good with returns anyway.

Thanks. Some TCL models have really low input lag unlike Hisense so that's good. The lack of apps wouldn't be a problem as long as the firmware is stable. Got a 4K firestick and PS4 pro that would do all of what I need. Only one 4K 60hz input though? bit of a problem that one.
Is it actual 10 bit, or 8bit+FRC?

I don't know this TV at all, but I'll guarantee its not a 10 bit panel. And I'm 100% certain about that.

Cheapest 10 bit I can find with a quick search..

If it's a bigger newer TV you want, it should be good for that! It's a decent price for a large TV. Costco give you a 90 day simple refund policy.. so long as you don't damage it you can just take it back for a full refund if it's not what you expect it to be. Something tells me you'll know within a day if it's for you or not!

It's capable of delivering 4k so you can by all means try out the built in apps and see what's available and the option is there to buy say a 4k specific device.. Roku, Amazon and NowTV have 4k capable devices which you can watch Netflix, Amazon and YouTube in 4k and I'm sure there's a few more that support it but loosely speaking, HD looks a tiny bit better on most 4k tellys and if you don't like the sound from it, I'd suggest spending a few quid on a soundbar to resolve that.. most modern TVs have below par sound anyway.

Good luck deciding :-)

If you're just after an upgrade to 1080p for cheapness this should be fine. If however you want something with that 4k depth and all that jazz, your cheapest but most effective jump would be the Hisense U7Buk range.. they do a 55" in Costco for £449 and it'll blow this out the water.. be assured Costco do a 90 day return policy however so if you buy this and don't like it, just take it back sooner rather than later and they'll give your money straight back :-) tested that before and it's 100% true, even on their clearance TVs which are only store specific.

I had a Hisense H65B7300UK from Costco that I sent back. The speakers hissed and crackled at low volume (seems to be a problem with many of their sets) and the screen didn't sit flush with the bottom bezel (again, seems to be a common thing). Although cheap for £500 in comparison to other sets, £500 is still a lot of money. It had no noticeable back light bleed or stuck / dead pixels so it was a shame it had to go back.

Wondering is this will be any better / worse (obviously it's smaller and cheaper).

Well the 90 day policy is a help.. but sound wise I'd swear by getting either speakers or a soundbar.. preferably 2.1 (being defined, two speakers/one soundbar and a subwoofer) you can leave the sub on really low powered but it makes a huge difference. Honestly. I got myself a Philips soundbar with a sub (2.1) and it has Dolby, HDMI Arc, optical, aux, Bluetooth and the old red/white connection.. more than a soundbar needs I thought, but it's been a revelation in my life and at £80 I was extremely sceptical since I already had brilliant external speakers and a sub plugged up.. but the difference in clarity is immense! Without an ugly bar built in along the bottom of their TVs they look lovely in the shop but that's where it ends.

Soundbar every day of the week. I swear by the optical cable as it just sounds like you're at the cinema.

Suppose in that case it would purely be a small upgrade in size. But if you're willing to go to the slight hassle and you're really intrigued, there's no harm in giving it a go for the money. If my 1080p Samsung wasn't 100hz I'd snap this up - but having experienced a similar spec Toshiba I didn't enjoy the motion rate and I'm far too fussy to take a step down on everything else to just get 4K and HDR lol

Yeah a sound bar with sub would be the first thing I got after a new tele. Finding a tele I'm happy with is the hard part. Been looking since sending the Hisense back but there are so many out there. If I could find a review of this it would really help.
Do you think they're trying to clear out before the US models arrive?

For me, the 50DP648 I have now is something "temporary" while I wait for OLED to get a bit cheaper. It's definitely a great price though, and this is a significantly better price I bought my 50" one for.

Calling it a 10bit panel without clarifying it as 8bit +FRC is a bit misleading, even though it's usually obvious at this price point; their US models do have it I believe. I was hoping TCL would be a bit more disruptive but it seems like it won't happen.
Personally the u8bUK has 100hz and would be the Hisense for me but it's bleedin expensive and seems discontinued. The U7BUK is only 50hz but they're both ULED and that's about as close to ULED and OLED as you're gonna get around the 500 quid level. Costco is £449 with extended warranty, RS and JL are £499 if you don't have a Costco card and you get 55" of goodness

If only lol.. doubt it though. They're low end and they likely just want warehouse space for something more profitable

They all call 8+2 as a 10 bit. Shady as hell tbh. Closest on a budget to OLED is the Hisense ULED range.. U7BUK or U8BUK for 100hz refresh panel.. re post above

Thanks, and yeah not expecting OLED to get drastically cheaper any time soon but hopefully other players apart from LG enter the game and add competition to the market.

I'm honestly rooting for the Hisense ULED tellies, mad affordable OLED competitor, not QUITE the precise levels but hey, sub 500 quid for similar? Damn right.. as with life however I'm waiting for a price drop with 5yr+ warranty haha
Just had mine delivered.

I could live with that. Any chance of some pictures of the set itself? I'm really tempted for that price as long as the game mode works properly. Not expecting the world for the price but if the picture is good enough, I'd be happy.

Yes, what sort of shots would you like to see?

Have to say that the regular "over the air" HD channels are very clear and sharp.

Standard over the air freeview (nonHD) are not the best but not unbearable but that's just due to the sceen size and source resolution.

There's quite a lag between changing sources - screen turns off completely for a few seconds, then back onto the new selection.

Quite a lot of apps but nothing I'm particularly familar with to be honest. Be great If there was a casting option but no idea if that's available? Have an Android box connected so that's not really an issue anyway.

There's no sign of any power or status LED - I quite appreciate that as I find them very annoying but I was expecting to see something Unless, of course, mine is actually defective....

The front actually looks very decent - I quite like the look of the thin bezel and the rounded tubular shaped bottom.

The way I look at this TV, is that it's a fully warrantied bigger screen telly that works out at 48p per week, for the five years of cover. Naturally, I expect to last longer than that...

Ha! yes I had totally forgotten. Right - that took me a while to figure out again also! .

Key is you need to be on the HDMI 1 Channel.

So press home, hit right to select tv on the bottom, then ok, then ok again, then select hdmi 1 - if you have nothing plugged in thats fine, it will say "no signal detected" or something - this is fine. As long as you are on hdmi 1.

Then click the cog on the remote which displays the menu options "Picture,Sounds,Network,System and Support". Select System. Then scroll down past freeview etc to "Advanced Settings". HDMI 2.0 setting should now be displayed!!

A couple of shots of the menu system would be great if you wouldn't mind please? Picture settings, sound, system e.t.c.
Does it have a sleep timer?
Re read a review of last year's model yesterday and the input lag is around 10ms in game mode. That's up there were the best I've ever seen! Have you tried a console on it yet?

I agree with the price of ownership over 5 years. It's virtually nothing

How are you finding the sound? If it hisses and crackles at low volume it'll drive me mad like the Hisense did.

I'd be getting a sound bar no doubt. Is there much room in between the feet for one? The IR sensor is a problem on a lot of sets with the bar blocking it.

Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance
