Teach Your Monster To Read is a free online site that lets teachers create virtual classrooms so that students can easily log-in and participate in fun exercises that are designed to help them learn to read.
This is a good app for encouraging children to develop and practise their phonological awareness. The app would be particularly useful for encouraging boys, who are often reluctant readers, to read.
The way in which children are encouraged to listen and say a sound and recognise how it is written ensures that they are linking the sounds they hear to how it actually looks on a page.
The mini-games are a good addition to the app as they introduce key sounds.
● Complements Phases 2-5 of UK Government-approved Letters and Sounds and other major systematic synthetic phonics programmes.
● Suitable for teaching at school and at home.
● Suitable for ages 3-6.
● Designed in collaboration with reading experts from Roehampton University.
This website is truly a gem. I love it and so do my students

This is an amazing, beautifully made and entertaining site for young children to learn phonic sounds. Design a monster and take it on an adventure around a magic area to find the letter sounds and fix a spaceship. The storyline is good and the activities are educational and motivational

My year one class love this reading game and are desperate to know if there will be more levels. It is the best game I've found for teaching sounds - and I've looked at a lot! Being able to play at their level and have consolidation for the sounds they get wrong is brilliant and means they can work independently without having to wait for me to assess and set the correct level. Fantastic!
