I managed to get a copy of Team Fortress 2 from PC World for £3.50. Toys R Us are selling a lot of games for £4.99. One of these is Team Fortress 2. Go into a PC World, pick up a copy of one of the games, and then ask to price match it with Toys R Us. When you price match, you get the price matched plus 10%. Normally, it costs £19.99 in PC World - so with the price match you save £16.50 on the PC World price or £1.50 on the Toys R Us price! Other games you can get at this price include Portal and Stranglehold.

Just so you know, this was tested on the Thurrock/Lakeside PC World and Toys R Us stores.

So how do we prove it is £4.99 in Toys R Us?

They didn't ask me. If they do ask, just tell them to call them themselves :P

Still haven't attempted one of these cheeky price matches. Does it matter that the Toys R Us is over 20 miles away?

According to PC World it has to be within 30 miles, so yes.

You shouldnt technically get the 10% extra, if you are BUYING it, you get the price matched but no more, if you have BOUGHT it already, and come back saying its cheaper here, they should give you the 110% difference

not true .. i believe the price match +10 % is before you buy.

We check our prices against major retailers and websites every day so you can buy with confidence.

If you find a lower price for the same product and offer, we'll reduce our price by 110% of the difference – even up to 7 days after purchase.

This applies to prices offered by retailers within 30 miles of your local PC World store and the UK websites listed below. The competitor must have the item in stock and website prices must include delivery. Single unit purchases only.

1. Your name and delivery postcode
2. The product, price and our product code you are interested in purchasing
3. The name of the Internet site or store offering a better price

Once the price is verified we can process your order immediately over the telephone.

Yep.... I did this but bought the whole orange box :-D

Toys R Us have Orange box for £4.99 so PC world price matched no prob !

what other games?

Any toys are us?

which store did you go to?

Original Poster

I personally tried it at the Thurrock PC World and Toys R Us. Other games that were available include Portal, Stranglehold and Frontlines: Fuel of War.

On the toys r us website they only have two games in stock (spider man and sims) so how exacly can they price match?

I assume : Find a store that is 30 miles or less froma PC world. Then check the actual Toys R Us store.

good find and yes you should get the 110%

If you find a lower price for the same product and offer, we'll reduce … If you find a lower price for the same product and offer, we'll reduce our price by 110% of the difference – even up to 7 days after purchase

which to me it means that they will give you 110% on the spot or upto 7 days later if you find it cheaper elsewhere

Hi guys, first time poster, long time reader

Just got back from both PC World and Toys R Us, and I'm not happy....

Toys R Us were out of stock of The Orange Box but they did have this (Team Fortress 2). I heard somewhere on here that Toys R Us had The Orange Box for £4.99 too.

Anyway, went to PC World, picked up The Orange Box, to see if they'd price match without checking stock (you never know) and the little runt of a manger, who looked about 12, said I had to give him PRINTED PROOF that I'd seen it cheaper over there so he has "something to send his boss".

I asked him couldn't he just do it by phone (after me pointing out it's not on the Toys R Us website) and he said no, I'd have to go back there and get a print out from their tills!

I left, fuming, simply for this fact: I worked for DSG (PC World's parent company), The Link to be precise until they became O2, and I KNOW for a fact that DSG's price matching policy simply involves ringing said store and checking. It does NOT require physical evidence.

On top of that, the little sales creep who I asked first said they wouldn't even match Toys R Us, and started whittling off a list of who they DID match, only for me to stop him and correct him. He literally signed and huffed and puffed his way over to the manager, like it was some kind of excruitiating effort, and left me 'near' him, not with him, just 'near by'.

Needless to say PC World's sales line will be getting an earfull from me.

Bottom line, I would rather wait for PC World to price match or for Toys R Us to get The Orange Box back in than buy Team Fortress 2 for £4.99 from Toys R Us (especially when The Orange Box) is far better

Can i ask which toys r us and pc world did you try? thanks

i wanted orange box too, but they didnt have it, so i got team fortress 2 and front lines fuel of war for 4.99 each. i had played other orange box stuff anyway, but if they did have it i would of got it.

Had a PC world next to it too :P, they didnt have orange box either. i ask pc world manger they chump said we would have to ring them and kept saying but i doubt they would pick up the phone.

It was the Toys R Us and PC World in Ipswich

And I'm going to attempt to call Toys R Us and ask if they can possibly order The Orange Box to be sent to the Ipswich branch or something, next one is a good 60 miles away lol, not worth the petrol

ipswich eh, i used them for my comparison price today (in bury st edmunds pcworld).

i did manage to get TF2 for 4.99 but i was unable to get the 10% off, they said they didnt do that, which i thought odd. took about 20 minutes to get through to ipswich pcworld too...

thanks for the deal.

well i jsut rang pc world and they said they dont price match with toys r us

i just got world of war craft from pcworld, thought it was cheap, check it out

Direct them to their own website, it says they do :P Click the Go To Deal button to see it.

The guy in the store was the same with me, didn't know they price matched Toys R Us, but in Ipswich it's literally a 3 minute walk from PC World, you'd think they'd know who they price match locally...

Anyways, I got TF2 for £4.99 from Toys R Us in the end, the petrol going there and back and there and back again was more than the saving I would have made at PC World lol

I went again and they did it. The bloke just selects other in price promise and types "toys r us" in the box :P Sorry for anyone who it hasn't worked for!
