Well I never knew you could link it to your hotmail. But you won't keep your original OS, that came preinstalled with your PC.

Hmmm.... you *might*.
Without hotmail the activation looks at a few key bits of your machine and matches them to known activated copies.

WITH hotmail... it's a bit more lenient and you can usually argue the case with MS if not.

Basically, before re-installing windows, change your authentication to use the MS authentication it desperately wants you to use. It'll tie it to any MS account, hotmail being the easiest but insider program, volume licensing etc all work.

Re-install, let it use MS authentication for the machines login. Login and activate once installed.

Now go in accounts and put a local account in and wipe the shitty MS slave account off.

Repeat as needed when you re-install.

Or just migrate your OS to the other ssd, and walk off and leave it. After it has finished migrating the old OS to new drive. Just swap out the old for the new
