Actually comes out at a little over £16 after adjustment for 15% VAT.

With the dark evenings arriving I've been searching for a couple of those lightweight flourescent cycling jackets for safety but have been shocked by the prices. Typically they are £40-£50 and up to £80 or more for a trendy brand in some cycling shops (ie more than some people pay for a bike!). Even a flimsy running jacket is £22 in Tesco.

I was surprised and delighted to find this one in Primark which I think would stand comparison with any of them. It's fairly expensive for a Primark item but it's part of their 'Backswing' technical clothing range. Some details:

Lightweight
Flourescent yellow colour with black contrast panels
Reflective highlights
Waterproof/Windproof/Breathable
Taped seams
Zip off sleeves (converts to vest/gilet)
Adjustable cuffs
Adjustable bottom
Two zipped front pockets
One zipped rear pocket
Full length front zip

Sorry, I don't know how to get a picture onto here but the barcode number is 6523315.

Understandably they were selling fast but I was told more stock is still arriving. There was just one left in Birmingham this week but Redditch had several in each size yesterday.

NOTE IN ANTICIPATION:If you have fashionably negative views about Pimark's buying policies this site isn't the place to air them. As a large and respectable organisation I'm comfortable that their policies are more ethical than many smaller retailers'. Having recently visited SE Asia I know that garment manufacturing is how many people in these countries are lifting themselves out of poverty and developing their economies. No, I wouldn't want to do the jobs but then I wouldn't have wanted to work in a British factory 100 years ago when our industries were developing either.

I'm sure I saw some hi vis vests in poundland before. Just wear one over your normal jacket if you're worried about costs.

Anything like this? :-D

Yes, got those to leave in car for emergencies but they're not an alternative to this. Waterproof, windproof, breathable. Valid comparison is with the £40+ ones for cycling.

Couldn't find this when I went into ocal primark whereabouts are they?

£17 ar primarni, must be the most expensive peice of crap in the shop?

I found ]this at Sports Direct. It looks better in real life than it does in the picture

Flo Orange and Pink available too

Jacket designed for cycling at £19.99

With other outerwear in the men's section. None in Slough but Birmingham and Redditch had them. If they're in there you can't miss them!

Correct re price - but they do seem to be very good quality. I think Primark must be trying to introduce some higher price / higher margin stuff into the mix.

Actually I've found a lot of Primark stuff pretty good but I know it's very fashionable to knock it. There's a lot of real tat in there but if you keep an open mind there's some good stuff too, especially the 'basics'. 100% cotton T-shirts for less than £2 which wash and wash without disolving can't be bad.

Looked there but none in evidence and this is more expensive anyway. Looks like a similar sort of thing but the flo yellow is a better choice and it also has zip out sleeves. Sorry I can't post a pic as I think it would show how good it is.

Is this one proper technical fabric (waterproof, windproof, breathable) or just the usual Sports direct tat using a once good brand name they have bought (Karrimor in this case)? Can't see any reflective panels in the pic and the description makes no performance claims at all which makes me suspicious.

I was looking at flourescent jackets in Sports-Direct I'm sure the Sports Direct ones are by Karrimor. Very good quality IMO

fair comment, rep added.

We bought a load of baby stuff from there when my son was born, not long ago but it never washed well. Looked cack after a few washes yet the asda and tesco stuff lasted better and the mothercare even better still.

Also, the queues to pay in that place are barmy!

Its is £4 more expensive, I went to look for the Primark one in Glasgow but couldn't find it.
The Karrimor one is great quality. It has reflective seams and patches on the back and arm.

It is also windproof waterproof and breathable.

The blue one is still quite noticeable, but the orange one would be better if this is your main concern. There is also a ladies one in Pink

Thanks for that.

I'd say the Primark one is well worth a look as it has more features if you can find it, but if not this one sounds like a decent alternative (though I looked in sports direct first and there were none in my local stores). I'll keep a look out for Karrimor ones just out of interest.

I'm inclined to think the flourescent yellow/green of the Primark one is likely to be the most visible but orange may be a reasonable second choice.

Thanks!
Just picked up a very similar Backswing one in Brighton's Primark. £14.68, barcode number 6523419.
Will give it a test run tonight.

Still a few left in Redditch today (4 Nov) but only in Small and Medium. In amongst other outterwear in Mens' Dept but if they've got them they're hard to miss!
