These are great for the money. EPG (not as good as Sky but adequate) and very easy to record.

Worth buying two as if they are both connected to your home wifi you can watch programmes recorded on one on the other and vice versa - very neat if you record something downstairs and want to watch it upstairs or as a 'his and hers' recording option!

Oh, and you can download recorded programmes to your PC and watch them there or archive them.

NB The fancy transfer stuff only works with SD programmes - licence restrictions prevent if for HD programs which is a shame!

Also Fetch service has been bought by ShopTo.Net and might re-appear in the future (don't let that put you off buying it for the other features though!)

You can also view anything shared on any PC connected to your network.

The HD picture is stunning.

You can't go wrong at this price.

Was posted a couple of weeks back come down in price by a few quid now.
You can get some helpful information here 8320hd.blogspot.co.uk/p/l…tml
I bought one a couple of weeks back and it's been rock solid, never missed a recording. You can download HD recordings to a USB drive or over the network but you have to downgrade the firmware to a older version.
I would be embarrassed to have any Technika badge items in my home
Do yourself a favour and spend a couple of quid more and buy a Humax

Love to know whwre you can buy a humax for 51.99.

What a snob? perhaps the s is kind.
I bought this 2 weeks ago and it is utterly superb.... My Humax has been put in the loft.

This thing does so many more things than our old PVR9200T and has a hard drive twice the size.

MEGA HOT FROM ME
Is also a media player, USB port on front... put in a stick and it has played anything I throw at it, even does picture slideshows

Ridiculous as your comment is, you'll be happy to know this item has no Technika logos on the front, no logos at all in fact on the front. For £50 I think this is a steal, had no issues in the last 3 weeks, and I can watch my recordings from the box on an Android tab or phone, or any PC on my home network.
Bargain in my opinion.

It has no badge on the front and is a third of the size of the Humax, is also far, far superior
Is this the one you can download recorded content to pc from?
will this decode the freeviewHD 5.1 audio properly and output via optical? (trans-coding of HE-AAC to a Dolby Digital format so our home cinema systems can understand)

bought the £30 fvHD technika box from tesco couple years ago but no support/updates since then, so it can't decode 5.1 on fvHD.

is this 8320HD more up to date?

Got one finally thanks, bargain for £49.99, ive had products from tesco outlet before and if theres any problem its very easy to get a refund.
Can it play MKV media via the usb port, and does it support the NTFS format?
Thanks guys, I bought one. Since FetchTV is gone and none of the links for FW from 8320hd.blogspot.co.uk/p/l…tml works anymore. including manuals etc.
Do you have any other link where can FW be found ?
Thanks
The firmware links work for me including latest stable, do you want me to upload one for you?.
Does this box have access to BBC iPlayer and other Smart functions?
Also can you move HD recordings onto an external hard drive?
I've Googled the above but there seems to be conflicting information.
... Amazing price if it's any good.
I just bought a Samsung Smart TV (EX72), anyone know if I plug in a hard drive I can record/pause/rewind live TV instead of getting one of these boxes?

HD recordings can only be moved with the lower firmware ive read, what you could do is record as much HD content as you can then downgrade then transfer then re flash the firmware.
Been using this for afew weeks as I got it last time around.

I'm using a program on my PC called Serviio which another member recommended to stream all my media to the bedroom
(Technika is setup in the bedroom) and its brilliant. So far its played everything faultlessly now I have it setup correctly. Video types such as MKV, MP4, AVI's etc.

Best £50 spent in a while, well pleased with the purchase. Cant comment on the TV signal/freeview side of things as my TV has freesat built in so use that.

Cheers
BTW you get parcel force 24 delivery, before it was pnp extra now it's included.:)

Great idea, thanks for that. Ordered.

Anyone know if logitech universal remotes are compatible with the 8320HD's remote?

:edit:

nvm, apparently the software has the necessary codes.

There's a review HERE if anyone's interested.

what is the format of the saved video files? can they be easily played/edited on PC?
Bought one a couple of weeks back.

Just taken receipt of a second one for the bedroom.

Excellent value at £50.

Yes, HDMI out.

Video saved in .ts format. Can be played easily using VLC player, and can be converted using most free video conversion software.
Bit of a shame there's only 4 channels in HD right now though isn't it? I was well disappointed when I got a FreeviewHD box and found that out. When will there be more channels, does anyone know?

You're welcome

Tempted to get another. If only the revamped EPG/UI got a release before Fetch went belly up.

Cheers, You have tried VLC and conversion rather than read about it? Reason for asking is I have a TS from a Humax (SD copied file which was therefore in theory supposed to be easily managed by various soft) that didn't play in anything I tried incl VLC and Womblesoft MPEG Video Wizard in partic. Which was a huge let down.

Does it use HDCP on any channels?
so can any current owners of this unit confirm whether it can do the transcoding of HE-AAC to a Dolby Digital so we can get 5.1 audio via optical or hdmi?

and you can only export HD recordings(.ts) after you've downgraded the firmware back to an older version?
At last, i can now record hd programmes:)
I've got a Humax HD FOX T2 which needed an external hard-drive to record and needed another power source for it.
Newbie questions here! I have a Freeview TV with very poor reception on ITV and BBC. If I use this will reception be better? Where does the box get it''s signal from? Thanks.

No transcoding to DD 5.1

I have tried recording HD content on the latest firmware and then downgrading firmware and downloading to PC but must be doing something wrong as I cannot playback. If I record content on the older firmware and then download playback is OK ????. However the older firmware is buggy and IMHO not worth staying with.
For £50 a brilliant buy I bought one tried it thought it was so good immediately bought a second one not realising at the time you can stream recordings between the 2 boxes. RESULT:3

Technika SmartBox 8320HD

The Technika SmartBox 8320HD is one of the most versatile pieces of AV
equipment available. As a standalone unit it will function as a twin tuner
Freeview+HD recorder, but to unlock its full potential it needs to be connected to a broadband router.
The connection can be by Ethernet or the built-in 802.11n wireless adaptor. Don’t let the fact that it has
Freeview HD tuners make you think that it’s only suitable for customers in areas where Freeview HD is
available – the extra features mean that it will be a really good piece of kit for ALL customers, even
those that don’t have an HD TV as it can also be used with a SCART connection.

Tuners
Twin DVB-T2 tuners for Freeview HD. Full Freeview+HD functionality – pause, rewind and
record live TV, series link, etc. Much larger buffer time than other boxes – can buffer
hours of live TV.

Resolution
1080p with up and down scaling.

Media Player
Can play video, music and photos - MKV, H.264 MPEG-4, MPEG-2, MPEG-1, WMV9,
Quicktime MOV, FLV, MP3, WMA9, JPEG, GIF, TIFF & PNG. DivX not officially supported
but does play OK.

USB
2x USB connectors (front and rear) for external storage devices.

Outputs HDMI, SCART (via DIN plug), S/PDIF Optical, Stereo RCA, RF Loop-through.

Network Connectivity
10/100Mbps Ethernet and 802.11n wireless.

USB Export
Export recordings to FAT32 formatted USB external hard drive or flash drive. Because of
FAT32 limitations files will be split into 2Gb chunks, but will play back seamlessly on the
SmartBox. File format is MPEG-4 with .mp2 extension – will play back on PC in VLCPlayer,
or rename the file extension to .ts to play in Windows Media Player or Media Centre.

Remote Record
Can be accessed over internet to set recordings remotely. iPhone app for this will be
available soon.

Remote Access
You can login to the SmartBox using the IP address and a web browser. This will then
allow you to copy files directly from the box to your computer, without the FAT32
limitations of the USB Export facility.

BBC iPlayer
Direct access to BBC iPlayer. Select from menu or enter 222 on remote (spells “BBC”).
Picture quality is great – much better than when using a PS3. Can also access other web
video and podcasts from CNN, Sky Sports News, CH4, etc.

Sky Player
After setting up a FetchTV account you can also access Sky Player directly by entering
759 on remote. No long-term subscription required and can be purchased on a month-bymonth basis. Current boxes include a voucher for one month free trial. Channels
available on Sky Player include Sky Movies, Sky Box Office, Sky Sports, ESPN, Sky 1, etc

Fetch On Demand
Access to FetchTV allows downloads of hundreds of films and TV Shows, including in HD,
with pay as you go or monthly subscriptions available.

Surround Sound
Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS is output from the S/PDIF Optical output, but not currently
from HDMI output. Transcoding from AAC (as currently used by Freeview HD
broadcasters) to Dolby Digital 5.1 will be included in future firmware update – note that
very few Freeview HD boxes can currently do this.

DLNA Compliant
Can play content from any DLNA device on your network – includes PCs with Windows
Media Player 11, NAS drives, etc, and even another SmartBox. Store your entire music,
DVD and Blu-ray collection on a NAS drive and access from anywhere on the network!

Power Supply
12v DC external power supply – meaning that it can also be used in cars, trucks, caravans
and boats with a suitable cigar-lighter cable.

Firmware Updates
Firmware updatable online (through menu system) or from USB. The supplier (FetchTV) is
much better than most manufacturers at issuing firmware updates to add new features
and fix any bugs, so advise customers to check for updates regularly. A new update
featuring an enhanced user interface (UI) with some similarities to the Sony XMB will be available soon

i'd think it was the aerial, so is your signal weak because it is weak, or your receiver isn't so good. What's the neighbours concensus.

Except a quarter of the size.
